# Whimsical Crocheting Tables Transformer by Merve Kahraman Weaves and Unwinds its Lampshade By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-06-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/transformer-by-merve-kahraman References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2012/06/18/designed-to-bond-with-you/) & [mervekahraman](http://www.mervekahraman.com/projects/view/7) You wouldn't often come across such a productive piece of furniture like Transformer by Merve Kahraman that can provide a nil net yield while constantly working. It is an unusual setup to begin with but on observation you'll discover just how unique and playful it really is. Upon introducing a ball of yarn to the embedded knitting machine, the contraption will quickly crochet a [tubular scarf](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tights-to-tables) and release it through a hole in the surface of the table. Next you cast off the warm woolly garment and apply it as a [lampshade to the affixed light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loops-lamp). With the end string pulled out the machine can be fed again, this time disassembling the shade. Transformer by Merve Kahraman sees the lamp spin and the [shadows change and fade away](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yurameki) as the desk consumes and reconstructs its accessory. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 70% | Activity: 5% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Transformative Furniture:** The use of furniture that serves multiple functions or transforms its shape presents opportunities for creative and space-saving design solutions. - **Interactive Home Furnishings:** Furniture that engages with users through interactive features such as knitting machines encourages an immersive and playful home environment. - **Sustainable Interior Design:** The integration of eco-friendly materials and processes in furniture design can lead to innovative and environmentally conscious solutions. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Manufacturers can explore the potential of incorporating interactive elements and transforming functionality into their furniture designs. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can leverage interactive furnishings to create unique and engaging spaces that reflect the personality and preferences of their clients. - **Textile and Yarn Industry:** The textile and yarn industry can collaborate with furniture designers to develop specialized materials and techniques that seamlessly integrate with interactive furniture. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dynamic Sculptural Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-transformation-table.md) - [Angular Transforming Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optimus-furniture.md) - [Geometric Nostalgic Night Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/handmaid-table-lamp.md) - [Sci-Fi-Inspired Dynamic Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacetime-transformation-lamp.md) - [Versatile Modular Couches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/transformer-couch-20.md) - [Origami-Inspired Lit Table Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightup.md) - [Task-Managing Dynamic Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fall-lamp-concept.md) - [Shape-Shifting Modular Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moodi.md) - [Industrial Shapeshifting Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jointable.md)
