What if you could turn normal items like paper into touch screen devices? That's the goal behind this new [touch panel design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hkmlc-smart-boards) by Japanese tech company [Fujitsu](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laptop-design-concept). By putting down items on the panel table, a surprisingly simple combination of a high resolution webcam and a commercial-grade projector, the system can read items placed in front of it for user manipulation. For example, a user can highlight portions of text from a piece of paper for digital storage. Another possibility allows users who are having trouble reading smaller fonts to get the projector to increase the font size. The Fujitsu touch screen interfaces are currently in the development stage, with a hopeful commercial release by 2014. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 20% | Activity: 51% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Touch Screen Interfaces on Any Surface:** Companies can explore creating touch screen interfaces on various surfaces such as paper, tables, or walls to offer innovative solutions to customers. - **Smart Projectors:** Developing high-resolution projectors with advanced features like zoom, clarity enhancement, and touch interfaces can open up new possibilities, hence anyone can turn a table into a touchscreen. - **Image Processing in Webcams:** Improving the quality of webcams using high-performance cameras, image processing software, and Artificial Intelligence can create powerful tools to augment human digital interactions. ### Where This Applies - **Education Technology:** Integrating touch screen interfaces and smart projectors in education technology can provide an innovative and immersive approach to learning. - **Retail Technology:** The use of touch screen interfaces and smart projectors can enhance the customer experience in retail environments and enable the digitization of physical products. - **Healthcare Technology:** Touch screen interfaces, smart projectors, and advanced image processing can open up new possibilities for healthcare providers for diagnosis and treatment, hence transforming patient care. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Fluid-Filled Tactile OLED Screens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flat-panel-haptics.md) - [Touchscreen Projector Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/touchscreen-projector.md) - [Interactive Projection Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/abusizz.md) - [Transforming Smart Display Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/concept-display.md) - [Touchless Interaction Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phantomy-software.md) - [Touchscreen Retail Ordering Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/microtouch-products.md) - [E-Ink Digital Wall Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fusion-1.md) - [Screen-Equipped Computer Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magic-mouse-touch.md) - [Screen-Equipped Laptop Trackpads](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/e-ink-epaper-trackpad.md)
