# Tortoise Shell Chairs Nadadora's Tortuga Chair is Inspired by Tortoise Shells By Joey Haar | Published 2016-11-30 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tortuga-chair References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2016/11/29/tortuga-chair-nadadora-sancal-tortoise-shell-futura-collection/) & [nadadora.es](http://nadadora.es/) There's something about the completely engulfing shape of a tortoise shell that gives the impression of comfort, and the [Tortuga](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stacked-bench) chair from design studio Nadadora brings that feeling to a piece of furniture. Created for Spanish furniture and decor brand [Sancal](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/raw-color-2), the chair's seat features a deep concave form with soft interior cushions that reference an inverted tortoise shell. The Tortuga chair comes with an oversized headrest that can quickly and easily be attached and detached. Both this headrest and the seat come in a variety of colors, which tend to be muted in a Mid-Century Modern scheme. The seat also comes in both leather, suede, and wool. Beyond the Tortuga chair, Nadadora designed additional matching pieces. These include an ottoman and a side table, both of which have a similar stance to the chair itself. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.4/10 - Popularity: 42% | Activity: 51% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Comfort-driven Furniture:** Designing furniture with a completely engulfing shape and soft interior cushions for enhanced comfort. - **Modular Headrests:** Integrating oversized and detachable headrests into furniture designs for added versatility. - **Muted Color Schemes:** Using subdued colors, particularly in the context of Mid-Century Modern furniture designs. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** Exploring new approaches to shape and comfort in designing chairs, ottomans, and tables. - **Interior Furnishings:** Creating versatile furniture pieces with modular components to suit different preferences and needs. - **Home Decor:** Developing furniture collections that offer a range of muted color options to complement various interior design styles. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Seashell-Inspired Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/traditional-and-digital-techniques.md) - [Sculptural Ceramic Tableware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/office-of-tangible-spaces.md) - [Sustainable Dynamic Structured Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/taco-chair.md) - [Cocoon-Like Knitted Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cocoon-chair-1.md) - [Comfortable Artful Sculpted Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/asari.md) - [Rope-Like Dynamic Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caterpillar-lounge.md) - [Curvaceous Padded Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/talk-chair.md) - [Revived Mid-Century Serveware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tortugaware.md) - [Smooth Textile Rounded Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/narinari.md)
