# Camera-Equipped Toothbrushes Tooth Guardian Lets You Monitor Your Molars Through a Mirror Display By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-12-02 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tooth-guardian References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2011/12/01/big-time-dental-alert/) & [red-dot.org](http://www.red-dot.org/) It's hard enough to reach your back molars with a set of bristles, let alone catch a glimpse of what's going on back there. The beauty of the Tooth Guardian concept is that it incorporates a CCD video camera in the back of the scrubber's head, allowing you to survey unchartered oral territory. While you're lathering up your bottom grinders with toothpaste you can take a peek of your top ones through the tiny lens. When the user has the Red Dot winning device switched on, the bathroom mirror features a live look at your pearly whites, lit up by the toothbrush's own LED light. Designed by Chu-Che Chang, Shang-Hsuan Lu and Yu-Hsin Lin, the Tooth Guardian system comprises a pair of electric toothbrushes, the hi-tech wall-mounted mirror with a hidden screen, a lower ledge and a UV niche for sterilizing your dental utensils while charging with ultraviolet rays. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.8/10 - Popularity: 41% | Activity: 66% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Inventions](https://www.trendhunter.com/inventions) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Camera-equipped Toothbrushes:** Toothbrushes with incorporated CCD video cameras provide live feed of the inside of the mouth, leading to potential improvements in dental care and oral hygiene. - **Smart Mirrors:** Smart mirrors with built-in screens that display a live feed of one's mouth while brushing teeth could disrupt the personal care and dental care industries by revolutionizing and personalizing oral hygiene routines. - **UV Sterilization:** UV sterilization could become a disruptive innovation opportunity in the dental care industry by improving the cleanliness of dental tools and reducing the spread of infectious diseases. ### Who This Affects Most - **Dental Care:** The Tooth Guardian system could revolutionize the dental care industry by making dental hygiene routines more personal and effective with live video monitoring and UV sterilization. - **Personal Care:** Smart mirrors could disrupt the personal care industry by providing personalized feedback and coaching, leading to better hygiene and more effective routines. - **Consumer Electronics:** Camera-equipped toothbrushes and smart mirrors with built-in screens could create opportunities for innovation in the consumer electronics industry by incorporating more advanced technology in personal care devices. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Self-Sanitizing Toothbrushes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ultim8-smartbrush-system.md) - [Tech-Forward Tooth Brush Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sonic-electric-toothbrush1.md) - [Lasting AI-Powered E-Toothbrushes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aipowered-etoothbrush.md) - [Tech-Equipped Smart Toothbrushes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oralb-io-series-10.md) - [Self-Sterilizing Travel Toothbrushes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plover-travel-toothbrush.md) - [Portable Toothbrush sanitizers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clea-toothbrush-sanitizer.md) - [AI-Powered Electric Toothbrushes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oralb-io-series-8.md) - [Automatic 360 Toothbrushes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sonic-brush-v5.md) - [Optimized AI Tooth Brushes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oclean-x-ultra.md)
