# Artificial Taste Emitters The Tongue Device Releases Savorable Fumes for Tube-Fed Patients By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-12-03 | Lifestyle Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tongue-by-germain-verbrackel References: [tuvie](http://www.tuvie.com/tag-smoke-mask-by-germain-verbrackel-protects-you-from-carbon-monoxide-poisoning/) & [turing.lecolededesign](http://turing.lecolededesign.com/gverbrackel/germainverbrackel.com/TONGUE.html) It's awful enough to be in hospital, then to have to be nourished through a feeding tube down your throat. The Tongue by Germain Verbrackel has been designed to give sufferers of various illnesses and afflictions some sensory pleasure where it's certainly lacking. Patients with feeding tubes may smell their meals, but they cannot taste them. What this device does is sync with a smartphone, a tablet or a laptop computer, enabling you to seek and choose a recipe (perhaps similar to the one placed before you) that you'd like to experience. When worn around your neck, the Tongue sits comfortably in the center of your chest, allowing chemically created flavors to rise towards your open mouth and nose. This innovative idea increases the appetite and delights the senses. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.6/10 - Popularity: 52% | Activity: 79% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Health](https://www.trendhunter.com/health) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Chemical Flavor Emission:** The technology of emitting and experiencing chemical flavors opens new opportunities for medical and entertainment industries alike. - **Personalized Sensory Experience:** The ability to choose and control the flavor emissions can create new experiences and services for the elderly, sick, or simply curious customers. - **Connected Healthcare Devices:** Smartphone and tablet syncing with healthcare devices can revolutionize the way patients are treated and supported, creating opportunities for tech and medical industries. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Healthcare:** The Tongue and similar devices bring new ways to support patient experience and well-being, creating opportunities for innovation in medical devices and services. - **Food and Beverage:** Chemical flavor emission can enhance the way we experience food, inspiring new flavors and dining experiences, bringing opportunities for the food and beverage industry to innovate. - **Entertainment:** Personalized sensory experiences can bring a new level of immersion and entertainment to virtual reality, gaming, and related industries, opening opportunities for creativity and innovation. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Multisensory Television Screens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/taste-the-tv.md) - [Tastebud-Stimulating Spoons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electric-salt-spoon.md) - [Scent-Flavored Straws](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-up-straw.md) - [Smell-Oriented Virtual Masks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/city-university-of-hong-kong.md) - [Wireless Tongue-Operated Trackpads](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wireless-tongueoperated-trackpad.md) - [Flavor-Enhancing Food Ranges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/holland-barrett-with-life-kitchen.md) - [Multipurpose Scent-Releasing Wearables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nosewise.md) - [Salt-Mimicking Kitchenwares](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electric-bowl-and-spoon.md) - [Taste-Adjusting Chopsticks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tasteadjusting-chopsticks.md)
