# Giant Playmobil-Inspired Jockeys Tomokazu Matsuyama's Solo Show at Joshua Liner Gallery By Marissa Brassfield | Published 2009-03-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tomokazu-matsuyama References: [arrestedmotion](http://arrestedmotion.com/2009/03/openings-tomokazu-matsuyama-glancing-at-twin-peaks-joshua-liner-gallery/) & [matzu.net](http://www.matzu.net/) This insane sculpture by Tomokazu Matsuyama is called "Wherever I Am," and it's the centerpiece of his solo show in NYC called "Glancing at Twin Peaks." The giant fiberglass sculpture depicts a Playmobil-inspired jockey riding atop a silver horse; the whole piece stands over 2 meters (over 6.5 feet) tall. Tomokazu Matsuyama's exhibition featured a ton of his other work, all of which add a contemporary twist to classic pop culture icons. There's plenty more at the link below, but I was so taken with this sculpture that I had to dedicate the gallery above to it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 23% | Activity: 3% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Contemporary Twist on Pop Culture Icons:** Opportunity for artists and designers to create modern interpretations of traditional pop culture figures. - **Giant Fiberglass Sculptures:** Potential for artists and sculptors to create large-scale, attention-grabbing installations using fiberglass materials. - **Playmobil-inspired Art:** Artists can explore the use of Playmobil toys as inspiration for creating unique and nostalgic artworks. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art and Design:** Artists and designers can capitalize on the demand for contemporary interpretations and large-scale sculptures in the art market. - **Sculpture and Installation:** Sculptors and installation artists have the opportunity to experiment with fiberglass as a material in creating visually striking artworks. - **Toys and Collectibles:** Manufacturers and artists can collaborate to create Playmobil-inspired art toys and collectibles that appeal to nostalgic consumers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Virant Monumental Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meow-wolfs-group-exhibition.md) - [Artful Bronze Horse Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deborah-butterfield-1.md) - [Primal-Themed Bronze Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-return.md) - [Community-Centric Sculptural Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playful-sculptures.md) - [Big-Headed Sculpture Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculpture-pots.md) - [Bow Tie-Wearing Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bow-tiewearing-sculpture.md) - [Peace-Centric Oversized Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peace-head.md) - [Sci-Fi Show Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yusuke-hanai-1.md) - [Collaborative Sculptural Art Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neojomon-biomorphic-fantme.md)
