# Mayan Temple Lighting The Tom Dixon 'Lustre Pendants' Shine a Light on History By Vivian Lau | Published 2012-07-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tom-dixon-lustre-pendants References: [pinterest](http://pinterest.com/pin/214272894741775709/) & [tomdixon.net](http://www.tomdixon.net/) These Tom Dixon 'Lustre Pendants' act as levitating historic gems, adding a little bit of ancient history into modern homes. Each is handmade and hung from the ceiling in shades ranging from bronze to muted lime. Their [iridescent sheen looks rugged](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stone-collection), thanks to its uneven texture. Given the [metallic finish](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flor-de-bronce), they look like they could have been welded coarsely by blacksmiths. The tiered structure of these lamps make the [hanging fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-lighting-design) look like Mayan temples, and are contrasted by other cylindrical or box-like designs that are modern but arcane. These pieces are part of the studio's 'Luminosity' collection and will be showcased in the London Design Week 2012. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 71% | Activity: 72% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Handmade Lighting Fixtures:** Opportunities in the artisanal market for producers of bespoke lighting fixtures created with manual labor and assembled by hand. - **Ancient History Styles:** Opportunities in the design market for companies that target consumers looking for products that feature ancient history motifs and styles. - **Iridescent Textures:** Opportunities in the home decor and design markets for companies that create products with iridescent textures that add a rugged and unique look to furniture and fixtures. ### Where This Applies - **Artisanal Lighting Fixture Production:** Creating handmade lighting fixtures that feature unique designs and textures, such as those inspired by ancient history, for affluent home decor consumers. - **Home Decor and Design:** Developing furniture and fixtures with iridescent textures that add an unconventional look to a wide range of products. - **Interior Design Services:** Offering interior design services that focus on incorporating unique, unconventional pieces, including bespoke handmade lighting fixtures inspired by history and culture. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Shiny Structural Lamp Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pose-lighting.md) - [Mesmerizing Glass Pendants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-dew-pendant.md) - [Melt-Resembling Portable Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/melt-light.md) - [Minimally Designed Ethereal Pendants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightmass.md) - [Futuristic Totemic Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/space-relics.md) - [Enchanting Hanging Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hf-series.md) - [Exquisite Textured Pendant Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pendant-lamp1.md) - [Artfully Functional Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chant.md) - [Sculptural Bronze Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flor-de-bronce.md)
