Called Toda House, this innovative structure by Japanese architect Kimihiko Okada is a sophisticated and contemporary design that features a unique [spiraling shape](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oak-house-1).

The Toda House actually rests on metal columns, or stilts, and encircles a [center courtyard garden](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baan-oo). A staircase in the courtyard leads one into the first floor lobby, where rooms run around the building in a counter-clockwise direction and incrementally increase in level, describes Dezeen.

According to the designers, the [two-story abode, located in Hiroshima](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-house-in-onomichi), features balconies that overlook a gorgeous view of the Inland Sea and Miyajima. For security reasons, the Toda House, which rests on the outskirts of a residential area, also provides its residents with a view over the roof of the house next door.
