# Tin Foil Sculptures Artist Leon Chew Leaves Behind Abstract Artworks in Hotel Rooms By Meghan Young | Published 2014-08-01 | Fashion Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tin-foil-sculptures References: [designtaxi](http://designtaxi.com/news/367844/Artist-Leaves-Behind-Mysterious-Tin-Foil-Sculptures-In-Hotel-Rooms/) & [leonchew](http://www.leonchew.co.uk/index.php?s=hotels) The tin foil sculptures of Leon Chew is an unexpected treat for the cleaning crew at the hotels he has stayed at. Inspired by Martin Kippenberger, who uses hotel stationary to create artworks in his hotel rooms, the United Kingdom artist used only tape and tin foil to create his abstract constructions, both of which are universal materials of little value. From [wrapping tables and chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paul-coenen-1) to leaving [geometric patterns out of balls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/illusion-box) and even random shirt silhouettes, the tin foil sculptures are a playful sight that he expertly captures on camera before checking out. He is a photographer first and foremost, after all. Absolutely artistic, the tin foil sculptures give the space they are placed in an otherworldly feel. One that would have been found on a retro sci-fi set. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.9/10 - Popularity: 21% | Activity: 27% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Fashion](https://www.trendhunter.com/fashion) > [Photography](https://www.trendhunter.com/stylephotography) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Tin Foil Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore new artistic mediums and techniques using tin foil to create unique sculptures and installations. - **Hotel Room Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Encourage artists to use hotel rooms as temporary creative spaces, leaving behind artworks that surprise and delight guests. - **Playful Sculptures:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporate playfulness and whimsy into traditional sculptural forms, using materials like tin foil to create unexpected creations. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art and Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Embrace unconventional materials and techniques to push the boundaries of traditional art forms and create unique experiences. - **Hospitality:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Collaborate with artists to transform hotel rooms into creative spaces, providing guests with unique and immersive artistic experiences. - **Photography:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Experiment with capturing unconventional art forms and installations through photography, creating visually stunning documentation of temporary artworks. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Origami-Inspired Steel Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reflector-sculpture.md) - [Distorted Furniture Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/first-kiss-at-last-light.md) - [Crystal-Adorned Crushed Cans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sam-keller.md) - [Geometric Wooden Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aleph-geddis.md) - [Fantasy Sculptural Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chris-wolston.md) - [Sculptural Mixed-Media Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folded-echoes.md) - [Whimsical Sculptural Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/city-block-series.md) - [Wrinkled Plastic Film-Wrapped Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paul-coenen-1.md)
