# Drafting Implement Illuminators Timp Lamp is at Home on a Desk, Here as a Light and Not a Ruler By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-07-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/timp-lamp References: [stilsucht.de](http://www.stilsucht.de/07/2012/timp/) & [pliet](http://www.pliet.com/collection_products/timp) The Timp Lamp looks remarkably like the sort of object you might find sitting on a drafting table, serving the purpose of a straight edge and aiding with tasks similar to those undertaken with the help of a T-square. But no, you won't find this [minimalist Pliet Design creation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/takeout-lamp) lying flat on a desktop, you'll discover it hovering over the workstation surface supported by its perpendicular spine. A small and subtle vice clamps the well-crafted fixture to any overhanging table of under about 2 inches in thickness. It's been executed to embody a true sense of simplicity, so only the [two finely fitted segments of wood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flatpack-timber-lamp) are supposed to be discerned as the components of the piece. Of course, a peek under the Timp Lamp will reveal a [tubular fluorescent bulb](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flat-light) that emits a bright, even and expansive glow over the drawings and documents under scrutiny. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 37% | Activity: 7% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Minimalist Desk Lighting:** Opportunity for creating sleek and simple desk lighting solutions. - **Hovering Workstation Lamps:** Innovation potential in designing lamps that hover and provide flexible lighting options for workspaces. - **Subtle Clamp Fixtures:** Disruptive potential in developing discreet and adjustable clamp fixtures for various applications. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Design:** Potential for incorporating minimalistic lighting designs into desks and workstations. - **Interior Lighting:** Opportunity for designing innovative lighting solutions for homes and offices. - **Industrial Design:** Innovation potential in creating functional and aesthetically pleasing fixtures for various industries. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Flexible Workstation Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/archflex-desk-lamp.md) - [Dynamically Customizable Desk Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/illum-desk-light.md) - [Architecturally Elegant Desktop Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/juba-tl1-table-lamp.md) - [Professional CNC-Machined Desk Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hilight-lumenforge.md) - [Elegant Axis-Mounted Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pendulum-lamp.md) - [Weighted Multi-Position Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-desk-lamp-design.md) - [Space-Saving Desk Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacesaving-desk-lamp.md) - [Demure Designer Desk Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/designer-desk-lamp.md) - [Minimalist Workstation Task Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/desk-lamp-concept.md)
