# Camouflaged Forest Cabins This Timber Cabin Blends in with Its Natural Environment By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-08-23 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/timber-cabin References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2014/08/22/fam-architekti-lake-cabin-slatted-wooden-screen/) & [famarchitekti.cz](http://www.famarchitekti.cz/) Prague studio FAM Architekt designed a [timber cabin](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nature-pod) in the Czech Republic as a [year-round retreat](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/green-cabin). The cabin features a folding screen that, when opened, offers spectacular views of the surrounding forest and nearby lake. The structure is designed within the same perimeter as the former building, a 1970s cabin which did not have the appropriate infrastructure or insulation. In improving these elements, the architects wished to create a more meaningful connection between the cabin and its site. Wood was chosen because of its connection to the environment; however, it also ensured that the disruption to the site would be minimal. Using screws, the architects raised the building off the sandy floor of the forest -- this method being more sensitive than anchoring the home with a concrete base. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.1/10 - Popularity: 99% | Activity: 75% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Sustainable Timber Construction:** Opportunity for companies to innovate by using wood for construction while minimizing disruption to the surrounding environment. - **Nature-inspired Architecture:** Opportunity for architects to design buildings that blend in and connect with their natural surroundings. - **Retreat Living:** Opportunity for businesses to cater to the growing demand for remote and nature-focused retreats. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture and Design:** Firms can specialize in creating sustainable and nature-inspired buildings for clients. - **Eco-tourism:** Hotels and vacation rental companies can cater to nature-seeking travelers by featuring cabins that blend in with their environment. - **Sustainable Construction:** Construction companies can leverage the trend towards eco-friendly building practices, using wood and minimizing disruption to nature. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Rustic Forest Timber Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rever-drage.md) - [Lake-Bordering Timber Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3ae.md) - [Dark-Green Minimal Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scalar-architecture.md) - [Circular Windowed Woodland Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/timber-nest.md) - [Forest-Treetop Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/more-cabin.md) - [Countryside Woodland Cabin Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aralar-cottage.md) - [Cozy Gaden Cabin Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/garden-pavilion.md) - [Minimal Bird-Watching Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hide-cabin.md) - [Off-Grid Forest Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-nest-cabin.md)
