# Satellite Smartphone Cases The Thuraya SatSleeve Equips Users with Global Network Access By Jordy E | Published 2013-03-22 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thuraya-satsleeve References: [gizmodo](http://gizmodo.com/5991685/this-case-turns-your-iphone-into-a-satellite-phone) & [thuraya](http://www.thuraya.com) The Thuraya SatSleeve will allow users to connect to networks from anywhere in the world. While standard service providers enable smartphones to work while linked in to ground-based infrastructure, this case tethers smartphones with Thuraya’s satellites. As Thuraya has coverage spanning approximately two-thirds of the globe, there are very few places that one would lose service when using a SatSleeve. Calls can be made from the most remote of regions by simply turning on the SatSleeve switch. And if the extensive coverage provided was not enough, it also features a microphone, an external battery charger and an emergency call feature. The device has therefore covered all the bases required by travelers headed to isolated parts of the world. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.3/10 - Popularity: 12% | Activity: 18% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/mobile) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Satellite Phone Access:** The development of satellite smartphone cases allows for global network access and disruptive innovation opportunities in the telecommunications industry. - **Remote Travel Connectivity:** The SatSleeve's ability to provide network access in even the most remote areas presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the travel and tourism industry. - **Emergency Communications:** The emergency call feature of the SatSleeve presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the safety and security industry. ### Where This Applies - **Telecommunications:** The development of satellite smartphone cases disrupts the telecommunications industry by offering global network access. - **Travel and Tourism:** Satellite smartphone cases can disrupt the travel and tourism industry by offering remote connectivity in even the most isolated locations. - **Safety and Security:** The emergency call feature of the SatSleeve offers disruptive innovation opportunities in the safety and security industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Satellite Communication Smartphone Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hmd-offgrid.md) - [Satellite Communication-Focused Phones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/satellite-communications.md) - [Anti-Connectivity Smartphone Cases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/slnt-faraday-phone-sleeve.md) - [Wearable Satellite Communicators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-global-hotspot.md) - [Touchscreen Satellite Communicators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iridium-go-exec-satellite-communicator.md) - [Satellite Communication Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smartphonetosatellite.md) - [Satellite Messaging-Enabled Smartphones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/satellitemessaging-chinese-smartphone.md) - [Satellite-Powered Telecom Services](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tmobile-tsatellite.md) - [Smartphone Emergency Features](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emergency-sos.md)
