# DIY Pom Pom Blankets Sugar and Cloth Creates a Throw Rug from Basic Materials By Jamie Danielle Munro | Published 2014-05-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/throw-rug References: [sugarandcloth](http://sugarandcloth.com/2014/05/diy-summer-pom-pom-throw/) To add a touch of brightness to the living room this summer, Sugar and Cloth has outlined a DIY project to put together a [throw rug for the couch](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/softblock-rug). With pom pom trim, scissors and a bit of glue, you can turn a [boring blanket](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woolen-blanket) into something with a touch more pizzazz. The pom poms really do just add a punch of color to an otherwise boring piece of cloth. I wouldn't recommend picking up anything heavy for the blanket section, since this is more of a decoration for the summertime. As stated on Sugar and Cloth, the throw can also be used for other purposes too, such as long flights across the country, [picnics in the park](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palma-pouf) or even sleepovers when one doesn't have too much space in their overnight bag. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 51% | Activity: 38% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 10% men, 90% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **DIY Home Decor:** An opportunity for businesses to provide DIY kits and tutorials for creating unique and personalized home decor items. - **Crafting with Basic Materials:** A chance for companies to offer products and services that enable consumers to transform ordinary objects into stylish and customized creations. - **Colorful Accents:** An opening for businesses to offer vibrant and eye-catching accessories that can easily update the look of any space. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art and Craft Supplies:** Suppliers can capitalize on the growing popularity of DIY projects by providing a wide range of materials and tools for crafting enthusiasts. - **Home Decor Retail:** Opportunity for retailers to offer curated collections of DIY home decor items and accessories for customers looking to personalize their living spaces. - **Online Tutorials and DIY Platforms:** A space for platforms and influencers to create and share step-by-step tutorials, encouraging people to explore their creativity and make their own unique creations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Multifaceted Luxury Linens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pom-pom-at-home.md) - [Luxurious Faux Fur Blankets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/faux-fur-blanket.md) - [Fashion-Forward Blankets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bold-blanket.md) - [Modern Stripe Throw Blankets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stripe-throw-blanket.md) - [Sophisticated Premium Bedding](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bedding-collection-1.md) - [Handcrafted Rustic Pillow Covers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pillow-cover.md) - [Pride-Supporting Sleep Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rainbow-throw.md) - [Comfy Lambswool Throw Blankets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lambswool-throw-blankets.md) - [Chromatic Natural Landscape Blankets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rumpl-retro-elements-blankets.md)
