# Thread-Inspired Interior Design ‘Phat Knits' is DIY, Kinda By Ayman | Published 2008-12-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thread-inspired-interior-design-phat-knits References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2008/12/18/touched-by-his-noodly-appendage/) & [baukeknottnerus.nl](http://baukeknottnerus.nl/#anch0) [Kids](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kids-collection) and knitting grandmas are sure to love the fun [interior furniture design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woven-structures) concept, ‘Phat Knits’ by Bauke Knottnerus. It’s hard to actually define or describe Phat Knits, so I will gladly use the designer’s official description. “Phat Kits is a series of giant threads used to create, knitted or not, interior products.” And there you have it. Half product, half DIY. You get these giant threads and it’s up to you to create whatever you want. You can ‘knit’ them together into a rug, a pillow, or just pile them up like a bowl of spaghetti! ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 27% | Activity: 60% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Giant Thread Furniture:** The trend of using giant threads to create furniture provides an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the interior design industry. - **DIY Home Decor:** The rise of DIY home decor using unconventional materials like giant threads presents an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the crafting industry. - **Customizable Interior Design:** The trend of creating customizable knitted interior products using Phat Knits presents an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the furniture industry. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** The trend of using giant threads to create customizable furniture provides an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the interior design industry. - **Crafting:** The rise of DIY home decor using unconventional materials like giant threads presents an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the crafting industry. - **Furniture:** The trend of creating customizable knitted interior products using Phat Knits presents an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the furniture industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Modular Knit Seating Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knit-one.md) - [Architectural-Focused 3D-Knitted Products](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/infiknit.md) - [Knitted Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knit-series.md) - [Kid-Designed Sculptural Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/galerie-philia.md) - [Sculptural Knitted Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-knitted-objects.md) - [Playful Toy-Like Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frunchroom-furniture-collection.md) - [Braided Yarn Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yyyarn.md) - [Upcycled Denim Waste Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fluff-stack-furniture.md) - [Knitted New York Subways](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/straphangers-lounge.md)
