# Intimate Comrade Illustrations Thoman Cian Immortalizes His Closest Friends in His Drawings By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-01-12 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thomas-cian References: [thisiscolossal](http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2014/01/graphite-portraits-of-friends-by-thomas-cian/) & [thomascian.tumblr](http://thomascian.tumblr.com/) Thomas Cian offers viewers a glimpse into his personal life by releasing a set of [graphite drawings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drawing-series) from the pages of his sketchbook. This particular sketchbook is reserved for drawings of Cian's friends, a diverse crowd of people from all walks of life. The [portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portrait-mom) are, unsurprisingly, intimate and affectionate re-interpretations of his closest pals. Though each drawing is simple -- Cian uses only graphite -- they somehow manage to capture the essence of the individual in question. Indeed, they appear to come to life in the pages of Cian's well-worn, [moleskin sketchbook](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/holy-ohio). Cian's sharp eye and keen attention to detail is impossible to ignore. Though the drawings are soulful and personal, I can't imagine any member of Cian's inner circle protesting their release; they are simply too beautiful. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.6/10 - Popularity: 35% | Activity: 5% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Personal Portraiture:** New opportunities for artists to create intimate and personalized portraits that capture the essence of individuals. - **Graphite Art:** Innovations in graphite art techniques and mediums that allow artists to create detailed and lifelike drawings. - **Artistic Expression:** Growing interest in art that offers a personal glimpse into the artist's life and relationships. ### Where This Applies - **Fine Arts:** Artists can explore new ways of creating personal portraits using various mediums and techniques. - **Stationery and Art Supplies:** Increased demand for high-quality graphite art supplies and sketchbooks for artists to create detailed drawings. - **Photography:** Artists can use intimate personal photos as references to create realistic and soulful portraits. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Personalized Comic Book Creation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dreamcanvas.md) - [Striking Urban Wildlife Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clare-allin.md) - [Limited Humorous Art Prints](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/david-shrigley-1.md) - [Stunning Origami Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-portaits.md) - [Whimsical Spirit Art Shows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anima.md) - [Custom Pet Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portrait-mom.md) - [Human Embraced-Inspired Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wallmounted-sculpture.md) - [Glamorous Artful Bronze Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sweet-jane.md) - [Personal Nostalgic Photo Books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/holy-ohio.md)
