# Collaborative Art Experiments Google & Tate Modern Gallery Team Up For 'This Exquisite Forest' By Katherinev123 | Published 2012-07-20 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/this-exquisite-forest References: [popsop](http://popsop.com/57090) & [exquisiteforest](http://www.exquisiteforest.com/) Remember those storytelling games that involve one person saying a sentence and another person adding onto it? Well, that is the premise of This Exquisite Forest, an art experiment created by [Google](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-digital-artwork) and [Tate Modern London Gallery](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ithell-colquhoun). This Exquisite Forest is a project that invites Google Chrome users to collaborate, via an online drawing tool, to create stories and animated art. A team of seven artists -- including Dryden Goodwin, Raqib Shaw and Julian Opie, among others -- from Tate Modern have put up "seed trees" to get the process going. Online visitors can now add their own drawings and stories to extend the trees, essentially helping the story/art branch out into a bigger tree. As Popsop puts it, "The more sequences are added, the bigger the trees grow." To see what online users come up with, visit [Tate Modern Gallery](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ash-furniture) where, beginning July 23, Google will put up an interactive installation to feature what the Tate artists and web participants have made. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.4/10 - Popularity: 38% | Activity: 27% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) > [Internet](https://www.trendhunter.com/internet) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Collaborative Art:** The trend of creating art in collaboration with others through an online platform will continue to grow and advance. - **Online Drawing Tools:** Online drawing tools that allow users to create art collaboratively will become more sophisticated, user-friendly and empowering. - **Interactive Installations:** Interactive installations which combine art and technology will become more popular in gallery and museum settings as they seek to provide a more engaging, interactive and participatory experience for visitors. ### Where This Applies - **Art:** The art industry can benefit greatly from the innovation opportunities provided by online collaborative art projects that involve user participation and interaction. - **Technology:** The technology industry has a great opportunity to develop new online tools and platforms that boost artistic creativity, collaboration, and experimentation. - **Entertainment:** The entertainment industry can benefit from more interactive and immersive art experiences that engage users in new ways, bringing together art and technology to create a unique and memorable experience. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Vibrant Interactive Digital Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-digital-artwork.md) - [Immersive Digital Forests](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/teamlab-1.md) - [Collaborative Drawing Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/boring-canvas.md) - [Virtual Holiday Collaborations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wishfultree.md) - [AI-Curated Art Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-art-of-trending.md) - [Sensory Explorative Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/making-sense-of-color.md) - [Global Pixel Canvas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wplace.md) - [Virtual Sakura Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/teamlab-forest.md) - [Multi-Sensory Art Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arcadia-earth-toronto-benjamin-von-wong.md)
