# Feline-Friendly Bookshelves This Bookshelf by Thinking Design is One Giant Catwalk By Katherine Pendrill | Published 2016-03-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thinking-design References: [fubiz.net](http://www.fubiz.net/en/2016/03/15/the-catwalk-bookshelf/?utm_source=feedly&utm_medium=webfeeds) & [thinkingdesign.tw](http://www.thinkingdesign.com.tw/) The Taiwanese agency Thinking Design recently came up with a clever new bookshelf that doubles as a playspace for indoor cats. As many pet owners know, it is important to keep animals both mentally and physically stimulated. This built-in bookshelf provides a unique way for cats to play and explore even while indoors. The built-in bookshelf by Thinking Design is a series of wall-mounted pieces that consist of several shelves and cabinets. However, instead of running horizontally, a few of the shelves feature a diagonal shape that allows cats to transition from one level to the next. At the end of the shelf, there is also a tree-like column built for climbing. The bookshelf even features a [small cat bed](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ergo-purrch) behind a paw-shaped cutout. The clever bookshelf design demonstrates how homes can be adapted to suit the needs of family pets. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.5/10 - Popularity: 96% | Activity: 91% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Pet-friendly Furniture:** The trend towards pet-friendly furniture offers opportunities for creating hybrid furniture items that cater to both pets and their owners. - **Vertical Cat Climbing Installations:** The trend towards vertical cat climbing installations offers opportunities for the design of modular climbing structures, adaptable to any room or space. - **Innovative Indoor Pet Playground:** The trend towards indoor pet playgrounds offers opportunities for the development of fun, stimulating and multipurpose indoor play spaces for pets. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can seize the opportunity presented by the trend towards pet-friendly furniture, creating unique design solutions that cater to both pets and people. - **Pet Product Manufacturing:** The pet product manufacturing industry can leverage the trend towards vertical cat climbing installations and innovative indoor pet playgrounds to create exciting and innovative products for pets. - **Furniture Manufacturing:** The furniture manufacturing industry can capitalize on the trend towards pet-friendly furniture, designing furniture that strikes a balance between pet-friendly and aesthetically pleasing design. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Cat-Friendly Seat Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jingcyuan-tang.md) - [Cat-Friendly Minimal Desk Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cat-cubby-desk.md) - [Vertical Feline Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cat-tree-house-2.md) - [Cityscape-Like Cat Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mocats.md) - [Cat Tree Furniture Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/slash-cat-tree.md) - [Pyramidal Feline Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/multifunctional-cat-furniture.md) - [Flatpack Feline Entertainment Towers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/float-cat-tree.md) - [Modular Magnetic Cat Walls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nyanpeki.md) - [Cat Cafe Beds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cat-cafe-beds.md)
