# Remarkable Dawdling Doodles The Thigh Doodles by Jody Steel are a Work of Art By Akihiko Tse | Published 2013-09-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thigh-doodles References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/jody-steel-thigh-doodles) & [jodysteel](http://www.jodysteel.com/) Jody Steel's thigh doodles are often misconstrued for as [tattoos](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/86-tattoo-limited-edition), but there is no mistaking her canvas. In a series of "doodles" drawn with nothing but a few pens and markers while sitting in one of her classes, Steel brings some notable pop culture characters to life on her leg, as well as illustrate some gruesome images of exposed shredded muscles and bone. Steel, a 19-year-old film production student at [Emerson College](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/throne-science), admits that she began her thigh doodles because she "didn't have any paper around ... "I'm just really pale and my skin is almost equivalent to paper." Some of those doodles include an octopus, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Walter White from the hit TV show Breaking Bad and Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones. Her incessant doodling in class has even managed to catch the attention of one of her professors, who hired Steel to illustrate a novel. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.3/10 - Popularity: 71% | Activity: 49% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Graffiti](https://www.trendhunter.com/graffiti) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Thigh Doodles:** Thigh doodles as a unique form of artistic expression. - **Pop Culture Doodles:** Illustrating pop culture characters through doodles on unexpected canvases. - **Pen and Marker Art:** Creating detailed artwork using only pens and markers. ### Where This Applies - **Art and Design:** Opportunity for artists to explore unconventional mediums for their artwork. - **Education:** Integrating art into the classroom as a form of expression and creativity. - **Publishing:** Collaborating with artists to enhance novel illustrations and cover designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Playful Doodle-Emblazoned Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sam-cox.md) - [Dainty Minimalist Temporary Tattoos](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/winterstone.md) - [Image Stylization Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/doodlify.md) - [Realistic Sketch-Reflective Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drawing-series.md) - [AI Art Generators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/doodle2life.md) - [Raunchy Anime-Inspired Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/manuela-soto-sosa.md) - [Artistic Jaw-Dropping Lessons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/masters-of-anatomy.md) - [Body Artwork-Inspired Fashion](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/body-tattoo.md) - [Interactive Creativity Home Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/doodle-interactive-wall.md)
