# Presidential Library Buildings Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library is a Net-Zero Library By Amy Duong | Published 2026-07-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/theodore-roosevelt-presidential References: [snohetta](http://snohetta.com/) The Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library is a net-zero presidential library designed by [Snøhetta](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/far-rockaway-library) in Medora, North Dakota, adjacent to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The building's curving form draws directly from the surrounding Badlands landscape, with layered earth-toned materials reflecting the region's geological formations. Interior spaces are organised to guide visitors through a sequence of galleries that frame views of the surrounding prairie, buttes and sky, reinforcing the relationship between the architecture and its natural setting. The project was commissioned following Snøhetta's winning design in an international competition held in 2020. The library incorporates solar power, geothermal systems and a high-performance building envelope to achieve [net-zero energy operation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-ala-blanca) while responding to North Dakota's climate. It's seen as the [first net-zero presidential library](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/koffler-scientific-reserve-research) in the United States, the building integrates sustainable technologies with a landscape-driven architectural approach inspired by Theodore Roosevelt's conservation legacy.
