# Plush Blackened Furniture (UPDATE) The Woven Collection is Soft and Subtle By Jamie Danielle Munro | Published 2012-03-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-woven-collection References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2012/03/16/the-woven-collection-by-timothy-john/) & [timothyjohn.net](http://www.timothyjohn.net/) The [Woven Collection](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woven-structures) by Timothy John was done almost a year ago, but instead of leaving the series the designer decided to add a few more darkened pieces. Many of his previous pieces included a gray-colored, lint-like material covering objects such as hanging lamps, clocks and tables. John decided to take these objects and blacken them slightly. The resulting furniture looks like the objects are ready and wrapped-up for winter. Although these pieces of furniture look comfortable, I would not recommend leaning too heavily on them. Having an upright clock come crashing down in the living room is not the most ideal situation, even if the design is covered in [plush padding](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sander-series). Instead, this furniture can be used to add a sense of style to any living room. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.8/10 - Popularity: 53% | Activity: 53% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Darkened Furniture:** Opportunity for designers to explore blackening and darkening techniques for furniture, creating a new aesthetic. - **Plush Padding:** Potential for incorporating comfortable and cozy materials into furniture design, enhancing both style and comfort. - **Winter-inspired Design:** Opportunity to create furniture pieces that evoke a sense of winter and cold through color and texture. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Design:** Furniture designers can explore new techniques and materials to create unique and innovative pieces. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate darkened furniture and plush padding into their designs, creating cozy and stylish living spaces. - **Home Decor:** Home decor retailers can offer winter-inspired furniture pieces as part of their product offerings, appealing to consumers seeking seasonal design trends. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sleek Black Furniture Varnishes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/black-teak.md) - [Dynamic Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tom-dixon-fat-and-plump.md) - [Wrinkled Plastic Film-Wrapped Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paul-coenen-1.md) - [Ultra-Comfy Seating Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cushy-lounge-chair.md) - [Textured Modern Furniture Lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/touch-collections.md) - [Fluffy Organically-Shaped Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fallwinter-21-minimo.md) - [Juxtaposed Materials Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wool-diaries-collection.md) - [Artful Wooden Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knowledge-of-all-dark-things.md) - [Open-Ended Dynamic Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nebil-zaman.md)
