# A New Wave in Furniture The Storyline Shelf By Design Crack | Published 2007-10-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-storyline-shelf-a-new-wave-in-furniture References: [designcrack](http://designcrack.com/v2/2007/08/23/thursday-props-dutch-by-design/) & [dutchbydesign](http://www.dutchbydesign.com/content/products/detail.cfm?Category=Furniture&Product=Storyline) I've included a couple of images from the Dutch By Design collection called Storyline. It's a bookshelf that has taken the form of an [abstracted sound wave](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frequency-20). The designer created the piece in the exploration of the forms words make when they are spoken from a book. The form of this [book shelf](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/qurv) shown above is for the word “Bliss”. Due to the nature of the designer's language, I'm speculating that the designer would probably not be able to create book shelves in his native Dutch unless he wanted a shelf that was twelve feet long. Anyway! Once the [aluminum shape](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pli-steel-wall-shelf) is created the piece is anodized and there you are. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 54% | Activity: 57% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Abstracted Sound Waves:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create furniture pieces that mimic the visual representation of sound waves. - **Exploration of Word Forms:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design furniture that reflects the unique shapes and forms created by spoken words. - **Anodized Aluminum:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Use anodized aluminum to create furniture with a sleek and durable finish. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore unconventional shapes and materials for furniture design. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporate unique and visually captivating furniture pieces into interior design projects. - **Metalworking:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Experiment with anodized aluminum to create innovative metal furniture designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Twisting Donut-Shaped Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hullabaloo-bookshelf.md) - [Dynamic Storage-Display Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-life.md) - [Speaker-Inspired Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lloyd-tex.md) - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Sculptural Bookshelves Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-bookshelf.md) - [Traditional Chinese-Inspired Wavy Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wave-collection.md) - [Minimalist Bookish Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimal-bookshelf.md) - [Clock-Accented Shelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/omega-shelf.md) - [Dynamic Architecturally Strong Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dogma.md)
