# Golden Sugar Greenhouses The Solarium by William Lamson is a Sweet Sun-Powered Cabin By Gil Cohen | Published 2013-06-04 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-solarium References: [faithistorment](http://www.faithistorment.com/2013/06/solarium-by-william-lamson.html) & [williamlamson](http://www.williamlamson.com/index.php/20-solarium) Using sugar cooked to different temperatures to create the golden panes for the windows, designer William Lamson constructed the Solarium as a meditative environment as well as a [functioning greenhouse](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/your-greenhouse-is-your-kitchen). 162 panels of sugar sealed in on either side by glass panes form the windows of this delicious cabin, reminiscent of the [candy house in the woods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-cross-cabin) from Hansel and Gretel. The golden tinge of the panels serves to brighten up the interior, drawing in warmth and a sense of serenity as the sun's rays shine brightly though the colored panes. Three species of [miniature citrus plants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rooted-potential) grow withing, creating a zen garden that is also a plant conservatory. Located in an open landscape, the Solarium is an escape for William Lamson. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 37% | Activity: 34% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sugar-based Architecture:** Exploring the use of sugar as a building material opens up opportunities for sustainable and visually appealing designs. - **Solar-powered Greenhouses:** Integrating solar panels into greenhouse designs can maximize energy efficiency and create self-sustaining environments for plant cultivation. - **Meditative Garden Spaces:** Combining elements of nature and architecture to create serene and meditative spaces allows for immersive experiences and stress reduction. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Architects can explore innovative materials like sugar to create visually stunning and sustainable structures. - **Renewable Energy:** The integration of solar technology in greenhouse designs presents growth opportunities in the renewable energy sector. - **Wellness and Hospitality:** Developing garden spaces that promote relaxation and tranquility can cater to the wellness and hospitality industries. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Solar-Powered Pop-Up Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solar-offgrid-cabin.md) - [Vaulted Glass Roofed Greenhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-de-vidrio.md) - [Solar-Powered Floral Garden Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solar-tree-house.md) - [Climate-Managing Greenhouse Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/livable-greenhouse.md) - [Greenhouse-Topped Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-house-1.md) - [Lantern-Topped Sleek Workshops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gardeners-house.md) - [Solar-Powered Vineyard Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vineyard-building.md) - [Plant-Filled Latticed Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/touching-eden-house.md) - [Sustainable Canopy Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-solai.md)
