# Solar Pedal Boat Jonathan Mahieddine's Eco Design By Alex Covert | Published 2008-03-20 | Autos Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-solar-pedal-boat References: [bornrich.org](http://www.bornrich.org/entry/solar-and-human-powered-concept-boat/) & [mj-design.fr](http://www.mj-design.fr/) This [hot tub-shaped boat](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electric-boat-model) from French designer, Jonathan Mahieddine, apparently runs off of a giant solar-tree/sun-roof. Not exactly sure how. What does the stored sunlight power? The televisions or the steering-wheel-less rudders? A closer look reveals another potential power source: [two sets of pedals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/otter-bike-explorer). Awfully big for a human-powered vessel but, a cool looking one, nevertheless. **Implications** - Promising an energy-conserving way to power objects, solar power is being revered in today's society. Designers are continuing to look for ways to apply solar power, and incorporating it into a boat only skims the surface. With the number and variety of products available in the marketplace, there is really no telling the reach of solar energy in the years to come. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.1/10 - Popularity: 50% | Activity: 65% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Autos](https://www.trendhunter.com/autos) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Solar Power Integration:** Incorporating solar power into various products and industries. - **Energy Conservation Solutions:** Developing solutions that reduce energy consumption and reliance on traditional power sources. - **Alternative Transportation:** Exploring innovative modes of transportation that are environmentally friendly. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Solar Energy:** Exploring the potential of solar energy as a power source for various applications. - **Boating and Marine:** Integrating sustainable and energy-efficient technologies into the boating industry. - **Consumer Electronics:** Developing solar-powered devices and gadgets for daily use. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Emissions-Free Electric Leisure Boats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gosun-elcat-solar-electric-boat.md) - [Solar Panel-Covered Boat Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ms-porrima-concept-boat.md) - [Solar-Powered Compact Houseboats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fng-sng.md) - [Minimalist Solar Power Catamarans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soel-senses-62-electric-catamaran.md) - [Solar-Powered Private Catamarans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zen50.md) - [Opulent Eco-Friendly Yacht Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oneiric-yacht.md) - [Solar-Powered Sleek Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-solaris.md) - [Hot Tub Boats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacruzzi.md) - [Hydrofoiling Electric Boats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hydrofoiling-electric-boats.md)
