# Robot-Inspired Cupboards The 'Percepter' Cabinet Represents the Epitome of Modern Furniture By Senduran Bhakthakumaran | Published 2012-04-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-percepter-cabinet References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2012/04/18/if-decepticons-had-furniture/) & [tiemerietveld.nl](http://tiemerietveld.nl/blog/percepter-cabinet/) Robot-inspired movie-lovers will want to deck out their homes with the 'Percepter' cabinet as it looks just like a crafted piece of furniture from Cybertron. This cabinet was handmade and hand-sprayed by Tieme Rietveld and Codex Inferno. It was designed to [play with the viewers' eyes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moving-furniture), testing them to see if they could distinguish what was actually painted and what seems blurred. This piece is perfect for any modern home interior thanks to its [futuristic look](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arnardo-desk). The Transformers series was about an advanced biomechanical race of robots and if this piece is nostalgic of their existence. Its color scheme plays along grayscale shading making it very versatile in a color-coded interior. I would definitely consider storing my Transformers collection in this cabinet. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.1/10 - Popularity: 61% | Activity: 54% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Robot-inspired Furniture:** Opportunity for furniture companies to create unique, futuristic designs, appealing to consumers looking for contemporary decor. - **Handmade Furniture:** Opportunity for artisanal furniture makers to capitalize on growing consumer interest in unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. - **Optical Illusion Furniture:** Opportunity for furniture designers to experiment with optical illusions in their designs, creating visually intriguing pieces that attract attention and spark conversation. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Opportunity for factories to integrate custom robotic processes in order to create unique, high-quality pieces of furniture. - **Artisanal Furniture Making:** Opportunity for small-scale furniture designers to differentiate themselves by offering handmade pieces with unique designs, catering to consumers' desire for authenticity and exclusivity. - **Interior Design:** Opportunity for interior design companies to offer clients futuristic and visually stimulating decor options, featuring robot-inspired furniture and optical illusions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Angular Transforming Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optimus-furniture.md) - [AI-Enabled Cabinet Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amin-saadat.md) - [Discreet Furniture-Like Home Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-home-robot-concept.md) - [Sandbox-Like Modular Storage Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-storage-cabinet1.md) - [Minimal Four-Legged Wooden Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/exposure-cabinet.md) - [Modular Storage Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-storage-cabinet.md) - [Twisting CGI-Designed Sideboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookscrew-sideboard.md) - [Thoughtful Wheeling Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cabinet-on-wheels.md) - [Cabinet-Concealed Modern Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/obelisk-3.md)
