# Eggcentric Abodes ‘The Original Dream' is an Eggcellent Creation By Jordan M | Published 2011-01-05 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-original-dream References: [goldenhen.au](http://www.goldenhen.com.au/work/hello-world/) When most people finish a carton of eggs, their first instinct is to discard (or hopefully, to recycle!) what remains, but Australian studio Goldenhem opted for a different path: they [built a house](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-chodge) and called it 'The Original Dream.' Inspired by a Howard Arkley painting The Original Dream is built almost exclusively from [recycled and recolored egg cartons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/humansized-egg-installation) in order to replicate the look and feel of the [ideal suburban home](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yoohome) depicted in the painting. The finished house is definitely cool and shows how much can be accomplished with a seemingly innocuous material by applying a little creativity. Whether or not you'd want to live in it, however, is another story altogether. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.1/10 - Popularity: 49% | Activity: 35% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Recycled Materials:** Using recycled materials like egg cartons to build structures allows for creative and environmentally friendly construction alternatives. - **Upcycled Art:** Artists and designers are repurposing everyday objects like egg cartons to create unique and visually striking pieces. - **Sustainable Architecture:** Incorporating recycled materials into architectural design is a growing trend that promotes sustainable and eco-friendly building practices. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Construction:** The construction industry can explore opportunities to incorporate recycled materials like egg cartons into building projects, promoting sustainability. - **Art and Design:** Artists and designers can utilize upcycled materials like egg cartons to create innovative and eco-friendly art pieces that captivate and inspire. - **Architecture:** Architects and urban planners can incorporate sustainable practices, including using recycled materials like egg cartons, to create environmentally conscious and visually striking structures. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Fried Egg-Inspired Canopy Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sunny-side-up-extension.md) - [Minimalist Experimental Egg Racks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/experimental-egg-racks.md) - [Giant Chicken-Like Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heir-and-a-spare.md) - [Abstract Fantasy Home Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/abstract-fantasy-home.md) - [Eco-Certified Eggshell Materials](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ecoshell-llc.md) - [Cost-Conscious Egg Cartons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cartons-of-eggs.md) - [Modernist Gingerbread Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gingerbread-dreamhouse.md) - [Economical Modular Wooden Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cake-house.md) - [Next-Generation Egg-Shaped Tiny Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ecocapsule-nextgen.md)
