# Gardening Cheat Sheet Mats The Nourishmat is Designed to Make Growing Your Own Greens Easy By Michael Hines | Published 2013-07-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-nourishmat References: [gizmag](http://www.gizmag.com/nourishmat-vegetable-garden/28194/) & [nourishmat](http://nourishmat.com/) San Francisco-based Earth Starter created the Nourishmat to help rookie gardeners [grow their own greens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/veggie-stats). The mat is essentially a gardening cheat sheet. It has small holes and labeled sections that tell you where to plant each seed. The premium model of the mat sports a [drip irrigation system](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-leafypod) that hooks up to your hose. The seeds that come with the Nourishmat are designed to be failure-proof. The seeds are a mixture of compost, clay, worm casings and chili powder; the chili powder helps keep pests away. While everyone would like to grow their own veggies, doing so can be tough and time-consuming. Earth Starter has more or less removed all of the work involved with growing your own greens. The Nourishmat is currently seeking $70,000 worth of funding on [Kickstarter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gud-plant-box). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.5/10 - Popularity: 5% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Gardening Simplification:** The Nourishmat's design shows a disruptive innovation opportunity for simplifying complex tasks through instruction and organization. - **Seed Innovation:** The Nourishmat's unique failure-proof seed mix shows a disruptive innovation opportunity for improving the success rate and sustainability of homegrown produce. - **Smart Gardening Accessories:** The Nourishmat's drip irrigation system shows a disruptive innovation opportunity for creating smart, technology-enhanced gardening accessories that cater to busy, urban lifestyles. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Gardening:** The Nourishmat shows a disruptive innovation opportunity for improving the accessibility and ease of home gardening products and services. - **Sustainability:** The Nourishmat's failure-proof seed mix shows a disruptive innovation opportunity for improving the sustainability and quality of at-home produce. - **Smart Home:** The Nourishmat's drip irrigation system shows a disruptive innovation opportunity for integrating smart home technology into home gardening and sustainable living practices. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Indoor Gardening Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-fieldhouse.md) - [Beginner Gardening Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gardeners-seed-spacing-template.md) - [Beginners Vegetable Garden Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gourmet-garden.md) - [Modular Indoor Gardening Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gud-plant-box.md) - [Soil-Free Garden Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/garden-system.md) - [Automated Indoor Gardens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-evergrow.md) - [Indoor Hydroponic Smart Gardens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rise-gardens-indoor-device.md) - [Space-Optimizing Gardener Grids](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seeding-square.md) - [Comprehensive Gardening Brands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gardenuity.md)
