Called The Mommy's Chair, these sketchy seats will cost you $564 a pop. They're designed by Lucy Merchant and believe it or not, they were the highlight of a recent exhibition in the UK. **Implications** - The inspiration behind these seats came from [child's two-dimensional drawing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drawing-series). This gives the chairs a playful, innocent, and whimsical element that's truly refreshing from other [designer furniture pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zoom-chair). To emulate the quirkiness of child-like drawings, the chairs were built from [steel rods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dream-view-chair). The fact that Lucy Merchant's Mommy's Chair is modeled after children's chairs is no easy feat. Her ability to make it functional and stay true to its look makes her creation one-of-a-kind. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.3/10 - Popularity: 81% | Activity: 10% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Playful Furniture:** Creating furniture that looks whimsical and playful yet still functional, inspired by child's drawings. - **Steel Rod Furniture:** Designing furniture using steel rods which provide sturdiness and unique aesthetics. - **Child-inspired Design:** Designing products inspired by child's drawings and imagination, providing unique and refreshing aesthetics with a touch of innocence. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture:** Opportunities for furniture designers to experiment with new materials and innovative designs. - **Interior Design:** Offering unique and playful design options to interior designers for residential and commercial spaces. - **Art and Design:** Opportunities to showcase creative and innovative designs that challenge traditional industry standards. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Whimsical Childlike Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-eternal-child.md) - [Eco-Friendly Ergonomic Child Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plogic-chair.md) - [Moon-Inspired Modular Seating Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wigiwama.md) - [Simplistically Shaped Geometric Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sitter-chair.md) - [Childhood-Inspired Outdoor Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peace-outdoor-lounge.md) - [Waste-Incorporated Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knoll-chairs.md) - [Dynamic Movement Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wobbl-rocking-chair.md) - [Platful Ergonomic Children's Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-lentala.md) - [Premium Kids Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/childrens-wishbone-chair.md)
