Nendo was inspired to re-design the [portable toilet](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-toilets) after research suggested that in addition infrastructure disruptions and lack of food distribution, individuals in disaster zones have limited access to working bathrooms. In attempt to offer a solution to this problem, Nendo's design features a convenient kit which can be assembled using items on-hand. The kit includes an aluminum pole, a protective umbrella, a C-shaped seat which can be supported with soda cans or water bottles and a large cloth which serves as a poncho, offering the wearer the coverage necessary to discreetly dispose of personal waste. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 58% | Activity: 40% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Disaster Zone Relief:** Developing innovative solutions to provide basic necessities like functioning toilets in disaster zones. - **Portable Toilet Redesign:** Creating compact and easy-to-assemble toilets that can be used in emergency situations. - **Dignified Sanitation Solutions:** Designing toilets that offer privacy and convenience to individuals in challenging environments. ### Who This Affects Most - **Emergency Preparedness:** Opportunity for companies to develop and market disaster relief products like portable toilets. - **Humanitarian Aid:** Providing innovative sanitation solutions to improve living conditions in disaster-stricken areas. - **Outdoor Recreation:** Applying portable toilet designs for camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Inflatable Portable Toilets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airpot.md) - [Compact Portable Toilet Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-toilets.md) - [Water-Free Telescoping Toilet Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clesana-x1.md) - [Enclosed Japanese Park Toilets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toiletowa.md) - [Compact Portable Toilets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clesana-x1-camping-toilet.md) - [Origami-Inspired Disaster Relief Pods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/prefab-folding-pods.md) - [Packable Backcountry Bathroom Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bathroom-kit.md) - [Sustainable Sand-Filled Toilets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sandi-toilet.md) - [Illuminated Public Artful Toilets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hiroo-east-park.md)
