Designed by Joshua Harrish, the [electronic cutting board](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caraway-prep-serve-butcher-block), which also functions as a [step-by-step guide](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cookedwiki) on how to begin from the raw ingredients to the finished product, uses the E-ink system. The interchangeable modular handles of The Make: Family Cooking system act as batteries that charge the E-ink display on the board. The handles that come together with the cutting board can be detached to be connected with the other [cooking apparatus](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magic-cube-cooking-system) like the whisk and measuring cup. Impressively, the batteries for those items are charged by kinetic motion, such as when you're whisking or shaking it. The E-ink display acts as a template for the measurements and techniques, programming the recipe instructions into the handle so specific measurements or duration are displayed. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.9/10 - Popularity: 86% | Activity: 82% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Food](https://www.trendhunter.com/food) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Smart Kitchen Appliances:** The Make: Family Cooking System showcases the potential for electronic cutting boards to act as a step-by-step guide on how to cook from raw ingredients to finished products, creating opportunities for the development of smart kitchen appliances. - **Modular Kitchen Tools:** The Make: Family Cooking System's interchangeable modular handles create opportunities for the development of modular kitchen tools that can be used across different cooking apparatus. - **Kinetic Energy Charging:** The Make: Family Cooking System's use of kinetic energy to charge batteries creates opportunities for the development of other products that can be charged through kinetic energy, reducing reliance on traditional power sources. ### Who This Affects Most - **Kitchen Appliances:** The Make: Family Cooking System highlights the potential for the development of electronic cutting boards and other smart kitchen appliances that guide users through the cooking process. - **Cookware and Kitchen Tools:** The Make: Family Cooking System's use of interchangeable modular handles creates opportunities for the development of modular cookware and kitchen tools that can be used across different cooking apparatus. - **Renewable Energy:** The Make: Family Cooking System's use of kinetic energy to charge batteries creates opportunities for the development of renewable energy products for other industries, reducing reliance on traditional power sources. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Intelligent Preparation Cutting Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/4t7-smart-chopping-board.md) - [Smart Cutting Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/versaware.md) - [Minimalist Preparation Cutting Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mudra-cutting-board.md) - [Multifunctional Kitchen Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/latticeboard-multipurpose-kitchen-board.md) - [Portable Knife-Equipped Cutting Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baca-board.md) - [Heavy-Duty Cutting Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/epicurean-bbq-board.md) - [Practical Kitchen Cookware Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/prep-set.md) - [Expandable Construction Cutting Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flexiboard.md) - [Camping Prep Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/compleat-cutting-board-set.md)
