# Elegant Arboreal Salons The Glass + Wood Building Accommodates a Salon and Office By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-11-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-glass-and-wood-building References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2014/11/09/glass-wood-building-hamada-design-koga-japan-timber-decks-glass-facades/) & [hamada-design](http://www.hamada-design.com/) Hamada Design completed the 'Glass + Wood Building,' a structure which houses an office and beauty salon in the city of Koga. More specifically, the building is located next to a major freeway that connects Koga with its neighboring cities, Nagoya and Kyoto. Because of its position in such a fast-paced environment, the architects were asked to create a structure that would attract the attention of drivers. The architects installed rectangular voids in the timber decks. Through them, a tree (and surrounding foliage) ascends from a ground floor bed. The tree reaches all the way to the upper floor, where it is easily viewed from the vantage point of the rooftop garden. The cross-braced timber frame of the building is conducive to the natural growth; it also creates an interesting silhouetted pattern which is enhanced when the interior lighting is turned on at night. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 44% | Activity: 10% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Green Architecture:** Utilizing natural elements, like trees, in architectural designs to create visually appealing structures that connect with the environment. - **Biophilic Design:** Incorporating elements of nature, like trees and foliage, into indoor spaces to enhance well-being and create a connection with the natural world. - **Attention-grabbing Structures:** Creating unique architectural designs that capture the attention of passersby and make a statement in a fast-paced urban environment. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Construction:** Opportunities for construction companies to embrace innovative designs that integrate nature and create visually appealing structures. - **Interior Design:** Potential for interior designers to incorporate biophilic design principles and bring elements of nature indoors for enhanced well-being and aesthetics. - **Marketing and Advertising:** Opportunities for marketers and advertisers to leverage attention-grabbing architectural structures as part of their campaigns and brand messaging. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Valley-Inspired Offices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kitaoka-group-office.md) - [Woodland Arts Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/waterhouseoyama.md) - [Hidden Garden Timber Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-room-around-a-tree.md) - [Woodland-Inspired Timber Office Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pavilion-jardins.md) - [Plant-Filled Latticed Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/touching-eden-house.md) - [Urban Natural Expansive Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/office-national-des-forts.md) - [Tree-Surrounding Mass-Timber Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tree-courtyard-house.md) - [Dynamic Terrazzo Hair Salons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/koda-hair-salon.md) - [Tranquil Clinic Interior Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palo-verde-aesthetic.md)
