# Creepy Circus Illustrations The Creatures in the Night by Clive Wilkins are Surreally Detailed By Meghan Young | Published 2013-08-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-creatures-in-the-night References: [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/the-CREATURES-in-the-NIGHT/8955563) & [clivewilkins.wordpress](http://clivewilkins.wordpress.com/) The images in the The Creatures in the Night series look so realistic, people might mistake them for photographs. In reality, they are fine art illustrations. This better explains the [surreal quality](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/junji-ito-artwork) residing throughout the series. Although that could have easily been attributed to some Photoshop trickery. All in all, it suits a [circus-like theme](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deddy-bears) perfectly. Created by Clive Wilkins, an artist based in London, United Kingdom, The Creatures in the Night illustration series is a mishmash of subject matter, all of which have been given a dark turn. Whether [playful or creepy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anima), people will find themselves looking past the subject matter to pay closer attention to the incredible detail of each artwork. From the facial expressions to the feathers, it is impressive. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.5/10 - Popularity: 35% | Activity: 1% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Realistic Illustrations:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop advanced digital tools and techniques to create highly realistic illustrations that blur the line between art and photography. - **Surreal Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore new ways to combine unexpected subject matter and dark themes in fine art to evoke emotions and challenge conventional aesthetics. - **Attention to Detail:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop innovative tools or methodologies to enhance the level of detail in artwork, captivating viewers and creating a unique visual experience. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Fine Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Introduce technology-enabled platforms or marketplaces that connect artists and art enthusiasts, fostering new collaborations and expanding access to unique artwork. - **Digital Illustration:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Invest in research and development of cutting-edge software or hardware solutions that revolutionize the creation process of digital illustrations, offering new possibilities to artists. - **Art Education:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop immersive digital learning experiences or gamified platforms that enable aspiring artists to explore and master realistic illustration techniques, driving creativity and skill development. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md) - [Surreal Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jeffrey-deitch-art-gallery.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Otherwordly Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/william-monk.md) - [Creature-Inspired Home Good Lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/charles-jeffreys-loverboy.md) - [Distorted Furniture Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/first-kiss-at-last-light.md) - [Artful Suspended Fashion Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/invisible-figures.md) - [Curated Horror Subscriptions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-tales-of-the-weird.md) - [AI-Generated Poetic Photo Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emilio-alarcn.md)
