# Symbolic Warped Church Windows The Church of St. Martin in the Fields Has a New Abstract Design By Sarah Dos Santos | Published 2013-12-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-church-of-st-martin-in-the-fields References: [freshome](http://freshome.com/2013/12/14/striking-unexpected-warped-window-london-shirazeh-houshiary/) & [shirazehhoushiary](http://www.shirazehhoushiary.com/) The windows of the Church of St. Martin in the Fields have a new, symbolic design. The warped windows are visually peculiar and intriguing. Designed by the talented visual artist Shirazeh Houshiary, the warped window design seems to recall a cross. The horizontal and vertical lines seem to be endlessly in motion while allowing the sun to illuminate the inside of the building. [Shaped like a twisted grid](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mathematically-shaped), the unique concept reunites the religious symbol while forming a new and spectacular spectacle. The window is lit all through the day and lets in the moonlight in the evening, making it constantly eye-catching and thought provoking. The warped windows of the Church of St. Martin in the Fields create a strong visual effect both inside the church building and the outside. The design combines the symbolism of a crucial moment in history with the celebration of light. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 20% | Activity: 5% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Abstract Church Window Design:** Opportunity for artists to create new abstract and symbolic designs for churches and religious buildings. - **Warped Grid Design:** Opportunity for architects to incorporate warped grid designs in building facades and interiors for a unique and visually appealing effect. - **Religious Symbolism in Art:** Opportunity for artists to experiment with incorporating religious symbolism in abstract art installations for churches and other spaces. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art:** Artists can explore opportunities in designing abstract and symbolic installations for religious spaces. - **Architecture:** Architects can explore incorporating warped grid designs in building facades and interiors for an eye-catching effect. - **Religious Institutions:** Religious institutions can embrace the trend of using abstract art and design to complement their religious symbolism and engage their congregations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Metaphorical Physical Community Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lighthouse-church.md) - [Warped Acrylic Bar Interiors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/awt-bar.md) - [Reflection-Encouraging Cohesive Churches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hjvangen-church.md) - [Albanian Sleek Concrete Chuches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/narac-church.md) - [Refurbished Welcoming Churches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/st-leonards-church.md) - [Angular Church Matte Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/red-church.md) - [Window-Emulating Lighting Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/window-chronicles.md) - [Barn-Form Family Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twisted-house1.md) - [Fluted Concrete-Added Chapels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/st-marys-coptic-church.md)
