This crib is not really designed with barbed wire. It just looks like it. The design is supposed to mimic and make light of the [physical restraints and many spatial limitations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barred-collection) that human beings create to limit mobility. The x shaped motif is supposed to encourage the babies to stay in the crib. How? I don't know. Maybe by messing with their visual perception?

Anyway, this crib, designed by John Greg Ball, is gender-blind as far as color as it is intended for both [girls and boys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mycrib).
