The Baobab is indeed a tree, but it's also the name of a [35-story tower](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-leaves) conceived by Michael Green Architects ([MGA](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miniverse-make-it-mini-from-scratch)) for Paris. The concept is part of the Reinventer Paris competition which, unsurprisingly, ponders how to reinvent and refresh the city architecturally.

The tower would make use of MGA's reputed [wood construction methods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/superwood) and, it is claimed, would be able to outperform steel in the event of a fire. Located on Boulevard Pershing, the Baobab project would include the main tower as well as a number of smaller wood buildings nearby. It wouldn't merely cater to the rich and would also include social housing and a student hotel

Ultimately, the Baobab isn't just an architectural project but a societal one that encourages "innovation, youthful social contact and overall community building".
