# Emergency Shelter Homes The 48-Sq-Ft Model is a Towable Emergency Shelter By Amy Duong | Published 2026-07-15 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-48sqft-model References: [yankodesign](https://www.yankodesign.com/2026/07/14/this-48-sq-ft-tiny-house-by-a-canadian-charity-strips-shelter-down-to-its-purest-form/) The 48-sq-ft model is a [towable emergency shelter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zodiac-building) developed by Canadian builder and charity [Tiny Tiny Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/olivia-summit) to provide temporary accommodation for people experiencing homelessness. Built on a single-axle trailer, the compact dwelling measures 48 square feet and features insulated metal panel construction with a folding entrance deck that retracts during transport. The single-room interior includes a bed, a daybed with under-bed storage, additional cabinetry and a skylight that introduces natural light into the living space. The shelter is equipped with an electric heater and an optional window-mounted air conditioning unit to support year-round use in different climates. The design excludes a kitchen and bathroom because it is intended to operate alongside shared communal facilities and support services. A pair of the shelters has been installed at the [Seeds of Hope Farm Project](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/international-photography-exhibition) in Toronto as part of a transitional housing initiative.
