# Barren Winter Holiday Homes Tham & Videgard Arkitekter's Swedish Home Reflects the Landscape By Joey Haar | Published 2017-05-25 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tham-videgard-arkitekter References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2017/05/25/tham-videgard-arkitekter-atrium-house-holiday-home-gotland-sweden/) & [tvark.se](http://www.tvark.se/atriumhouse/) The Swedish landscape is notoriously hoary, with hundreds of square kilometers of snowswept barrens that have inspired everything from Swedish literature to the Swedish way of life, and Tham & Videgard Arkitekter have further used the landscape as inspiration for '[Atrium House](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-atrium-house).' In every aspect of the design, the home reflects the environment that it occupies, from the physical structure to the interior design. Tham & Videgard Arkitekter's Atrium House is a bungalow, which is already fitting considering the flatness of the region (it is on the Swedish island of Gotland, to be specific.) The squat house has a [concrete facade](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acute-house) similar in color to the snow around it, and its reflective windows cause it to blend in even further. On the interior, the home has only [sparse decoration](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/haus-am-lagnesberg). It's pared down to the basic necessities, letting its occupants appreciate the surrounding nature. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 67% | Activity: 15% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Minimalist Housing:** The sparse interior design of Tham & Videgard Arkitekter's Atrium House highlights the potential for minimalist housing to maximize appreciation of surrounding nature. - **Environment-inspired Architecture:** Tham & Videgard Arkitekter's Atrium House reflects the Swedish landscape it occupies, showcasing the potential for environment-inspired architecture. - **Integration of Natural Surroundings:** Tham & Videgard Arkitekter's Atrium House blends into its snowy surroundings, indicating the possibility for integrating natural surroundings into architecture designs. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** Architecture professionals may consider incorporating environmental inspiration and blending structures with surroundings, as demonstrated in Tham & Videgard Arkitekter's Atrium House. - **Real Estate:** Real estate professionals should be aware of increasing interest in minimalist housing and the potential appeal of homes that showcase their natural surroundings, like Tham & Videgard Arkitekter's Atrium House. - **Interior Design:** Interiors professionals may find opportunities to prioritize minimalism and basic necessities, following the design philosophy of Tham & Videgard Arkitekter's Atrium House. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Natural Material-Crafterd Holiday Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sommarhus-e.md) - [Blocky Structural Coastal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sa-hjort.md) - [Serene Timeless Minimal Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-hkarn.md) - [Monolithic Sleek Summer Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vollerup-atrium.md) - [Log Cabin-Inspired Minimal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/restua.md) - [Tar-Coated Timber Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-tjurpannan.md) - [Contemporary Arctic Red Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/simonsson-house.md) - [Coastal Summer Calm Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hors.md) - [Swedish Mountain Timber Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-ottsj.md)
