# Marine Mammal Cutters Tetsu Yamashita Designed these Wicked Whale Knives By Francis Tiangson | Published 2011-02-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tetsu-yamashita References: [notcot.org](http://www.notcot.org/post/38288/) & [shinproducts](http://www.shinproducts.com/efish/products.php?category_id=8&subcategory_id=151&page=1&pic=543) The whale knives by Tetsu Yamashita are cute and playful instruments that will certainly add a distinct charm to your cooking equipment. Available in three different styles, each of these pieces were designed to look like a type of marine mammal. Tetsu Yamashita created these whale knives out of steel, making them just as functional as they are adorable. It might be weird to fillet a fish with one of these knives, as it'd resemble an odd form of fish-on-fish violence. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 19% | Activity: 28% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Whale-inspired Kitchen Tools:** The trend of designing kitchen tools inspired by marine mammals opens up opportunities for innovative and playful cooking equipment. - **Functional and Cute Utensils:** The trend of creating functional utensils with a cute and charming design allows for disruptive innovation in the kitchenware industry. - **Playful Cooking Equipment:** The trend of incorporating whimsical and playful elements into cooking equipment offers opportunities for unique and imaginative culinary experiences. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Kitchenware:** The kitchenware industry can explore disruptive innovation by incorporating unique designs inspired by marine mammals. - **Culinary Tools:** The culinary tools industry has the potential to disrupt the market by creating functional utensils with a cute and charming aesthetic. - **Cooking Equipment:** The cooking equipment industry can tap into the trend of playful design to create innovative and engaging products for home cooks. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Precise Artfully Intricate Knives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yin-mo-star-kui.md) - [Volcanic Topography Knives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cutlery-knives.md) - [Exclusive Chef Knives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/limited-edition-chef-knife.md) - [Forged Sword-Like Knives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shirasagi-knife.md) - [Car-Inspired Sleek Sushi Knives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/z-nismo-precision-sushi-knife.md) - [Marine-Inspired Mouse Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arjun-vallabheshwar.md) - [Ultra-Luxe Damasteel Kitchen Knives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/collectors-edition-kitchen-knives.md) - [Demure Denim Micarta Knives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wesn-momotaro-samla-knife.md) - [Elegant Design-Forward Japanese Knives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/japanese-knives.md)
