# Delightful Art Deco Illuminators The Terrace Lamp Brightens Up Spaces as a Retro-Modern Hybrid By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-01-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/terrace-lamp References: [mocoloco](http://mocoloco.com/archives/029567.php) & [damm-design](http://www.damm-design.com/shop/terrace) The Terrace Lamp takes [inspiration from design of the 1930s](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/joe-colombo), yet it's got a distinct freshness about its appearance. Handmade production techniques, vintage forms and iconic colors combine into a piece that simply pops. It would be the highlight of a contemporary room. Made by Robert and Brenda Zurn of Damm, this [table lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/little-lebow-table-lamp) has a thick stand made from ash wood. It's kept smooth, cylindrical and natural over its lower half; meanwhile, the upper portion has been turned for a ribbed texture and finished in bright mint-hued paint. The top of the Terrace Lamp is a [hand-spun aluminum lampshade](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polyshape) that's flat and disk-shaped and capped with a small brass finial. It embodies a whimsical interplay of forms, materials and pigments, emitting a playful vibrancy even when it's switched off. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.3/10 - Popularity: 26% | Activity: 4% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Art Deco Revival:** Fusing vintage shapes and colors with modern aesthetics to create quirky and elegant lighting designs. - **Handmade Lighting:** Combining traditional handcrafting techniques with innovative materials to produce unique and customizable lighting solutions. - **Hybrid Design:** Blending classic and contemporary styles to create fresh and exciting products that appeal to a range of tastes and preferences. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** Innovative lighting designs can transform spaces and enhance the overall aesthetic of any environment, offering new opportunities for interior designers and architects. - **Home Decor:** Handmade lighting products and vintage-inspired designs offer a unique and personalized touch to home decor, appealing to consumers looking for distinctive and one-of-a-kind pieces. - **Artistic Manufacturing:** The combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern design aesthetics presents an opportunity for artisanal manufacturers to create new and innovative lighting products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Minimalist Tech Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/delite-20.md) - [Earthy Terracotta Tablet Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/terralume-table-lamp.md) - [Sculptural Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp.md) - [Architecturally Elegant Desktop Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/juba-tl1-table-lamp.md) - [Stunning Mushroom-Shaped Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mushroomshaped-table-lamp.md) - [Plant-Inspired Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palmetto-lamp.md) - [Elegant Compact Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-table-light.md) - [Archetypal Conical Light Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragile-lamp.md) - [Simplistic Angular Desktop Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linear-table-lamp.md)
