# Faux Octopus Taxidermy This Tentacle Sculpture by 'ArtAkimbo' is Extremely Lifelike By Alyson Wyers | Published 2013-08-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tentacle-sculpture References: [lostateminor](http://www.lostateminor.com/2013/08/23/faux-octopus-taxidermy-makes-for-cool-home-fixtures/) & [etsy](http://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/85847985/steampunk-tentacle-sculpture-octopus-arm?ref=pr_shop) This tentacle sculpture by 'ArtAkimbo' on [Etsy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wood-wall-hanger) makes an aquatic addition to your home. The hanging wall fixture resembles an octopus tentacle reaching out from the wall. The faux taxidermy is handmade from urethane, dye, epoxy, plywood, paint and steel. The steampunk nautical decor makes an excellent fixture for a beach house or a perfect present for any under-the-sea enthusiasts you might know. Rather than a fake deer head or fish, this tentacle sculpture is an unexpected animal decoration. The pretend tentacle is mounted on a circular plaque, which resembles an oceanic vessel portal, with a reddish hued leg posed outward. Underneath, white suction caps are clearly visible. The writhing action adds to the reality of the piece as well. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 32% | Activity: 20% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Faux Taxidermy:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the market for unconventional animal decorations and sculptures made from alternative materials like urethane and epoxy. - **Steampunk Nautical Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Combine the aesthetics of steampunk and nautical themes to create unique home decor that appeals to a niche market. - **Underwater-inspired Home Accessories:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design and manufacture home accessories that draw inspiration from marine life, appealing to individuals who appreciate under-the-sea aesthetics. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art and Sculpture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Use unconventional materials and designs to create unique sculptures that appeal to a wider audience. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Introduce new and unconventional home decor items that target specific niche markets. - **Gifts and Collectibles:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop a range of unique and unusual gifts inspired by unconventional animal decorations and sculptures. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Creature-Like Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/octopus-center-table.md) - [Sea-Inspired Mini Sculpture Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mini-sculptures.md) - [Textural Octopus Meat Alternatives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/revo-foods.md) - [Plant-Based Octopus Alternatives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-kraken-by-revo-foods.md) - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md) - [Human Embraced-Inspired Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wallmounted-sculpture.md) - [Ocean-Inspired Home Decor](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ceramic-coralshaped-vase.md) - [Shell-Like Structural Wall Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barnacle-wall-sconce.md) - [Aquatic Creature-Inspired Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nessie-side-table.md)
