# Worm-Like Urban Benches Temporary Biodegradable Seating Accommodates All Living Things By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-08-15 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/temporary-biodegradable-seating References: [industrialdesignserved](http://www.industrialdesignserved.com/gallery/Temporary-Biodegradable-Urban-Seating/198180) Every day, humans put their own comfort before considerations for nature, though a project like this Temporary Biodegradable Seating scheme is a rare attempt to make experiencing the outdoors a lot lighter on the Earth. Designer Dan LaBarca has conceived a system ideal for accommodating infrequent influxes of people in [public places](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leftover-bench). He's developed a [modular bench](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/adp-bench) that can be arranged in a handful of different ways so to interact with adjacent elements and the people who seek a place to repose. During parades and concerts, the S-shaped seats can wind along walkways or spread across lawns. Temporary Biodegradable Seating can be half stacked to form backrests and loungers, and when there's no longer a need for them, the soy foam stuffing can be disposed of to compost. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 30% | Activity: 15% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Modular Seating:** The development of modular benches that can be arranged in different ways presents an opportunity for customized and adaptable seating solutions in various industries. - **Biodegradable Design:** The use of biodegradable materials in seating design opens up opportunities for sustainable and eco-friendly furniture alternatives in the market. - **Temporary Seating Solutions:** The concept of temporary seating that can be easily set up and taken down provides opportunities for events, festivals, and outdoor gatherings to provide comfortable seating options. ### Where This Applies - **Event Planning:** The event planning industry can benefit from using modular and temporary seating solutions to provide comfortable seating arrangements for various events. - **Outdoor Furniture:** The outdoor furniture industry can explore the use of biodegradable materials in their designs, providing sustainable options for homeowners and businesses. - **Public Spaces:** Public spaces, such as parks and concert venues, can utilize temporary seating solutions to create flexible and comfortable seating options for visitors. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Public Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-public-seating.md) - [Sustainable Paper-Infused Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/detalji-bench.md) - [Modular Outdoor Space Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mass-public-bench.md) - [Inclusive Modular Cityscape Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urban-bench.md) - [Naturalistic Public Outdoor Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/life-ark-outdoor-seat.md) - [Cocoon-Inspired Bench Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gandan-bench.md) - [Adaptable Outdoor Seat Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monom-seater-concept.md) - [Inflatable Molded Collective Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/situation.md) - [City-Honoring Furniture Projects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/symbiotic-urban-furniture-project.md)
