# Slithering Light Sculptures The Tekio Art Installation Displays the Fixture's Adaptability By Meghan Young | Published 2012-06-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tekio-art-installation References: [coolhunting](http://www.coolhunting.com/design/tekio.php) & [anthonydickens](http://www.anthonydickens.com/) There might be something vaguely familiar about the Tekio art installation. That is because it is made up of the [Tekio Lamp](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tekio-lamp) that took the industrial design industry by storm last year. A modular, worm-like light fixture inspired by Japanese Chōchin paper lanterns, this sinuous sculpture shows exactly what it is capable of. Created by United Kingdom designer Anthony Dickens for [Clerkenwell Design Week](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brick-from-a-stone) in London, England, the Tekio art installation looks like a piping system that has been given a radioactive glow. Beautiful to behold, it shows off the various configurations the lighting can take on: straight, rectangular, triangular, circular, interlocking and spiral. Attention-grabbing in its simplicity and adaptability, the Tekio art installation is made out of [paper diffusers and aluminum framing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shining-a-light), giving it a lightweight and ethereal appeal. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 37% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Modular Light Fixtures:** Modular light fixtures offer customizable and adaptable lighting solutions. - **Industrial Design Innovation:** Industrial design innovations like the Tekio art installation push the boundaries of traditional lighting fixtures. - **Paper Lantern Revival:** The use of paper lantern-inspired designs in contemporary light installations combines heritage and modern aesthetics. ### Who This Affects Most - **Lighting Design:** The lighting design industry can capitalize on the demand for customizable and versatile light fixtures. - **Industrial Manufacturing:** The industrial manufacturing sector has opportunities to develop new materials and construction methods for innovative lighting designs. - **Art and Décor:** The art and décor industry can incorporate paper lantern-inspired designs into unique and eye-catching installations and products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Honeycomb-Like Sculptural Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tri-light.md) - [Glowing Tubular Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/array-lighting.md) - [Unconventional Modular Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luna-kaleido-series.md) - [Ethereal Oil Lamp Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-realm-of-light.md) - [Stunningly Intricate Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shapes-of-light.md) - [Poetic Rippling Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yurameki.md) - [Chic Saucer-Shaped Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-in-tight-light-fixture.md) - [Illuminated Curtained Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/making-the-invisible-visible.md) - [Organically Shaped Shadow Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loops-lamp.md)
