# Teardrop Shelf Solutions The Waver Tree Co. Designs a Striking Curvaceous Storage Unit By Meghan Young | Published 2015-06-30 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/teardrop-shelf References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2015/06/27/this-hanging-shelf-was-inspired-by-the-classic-teardrop-shape/) & [etsy](https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/180927115/mid-century-teardrop-shelf-mid-century) The Teardrop Shelf is a [minimalist storage solution](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/balolo-setup-cockpit) that brings a sculptural touch to homes and offices in a very practical manner. [Hanging on the wall](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wallmounted-storage) as though a piece of art, it nonetheless can house a ton of knickknacks just like more typical shelving. The only big difference is that the Teardrop Shelf does have an artistic twist that drops down as though it were a tear. Designed by Oliva and Lee of The Waver Tree Co., a company based in Maine, the Teardrop Shelf is made out of red cedar and pine. Granted, it does serve more of a decorative purpose than a practical one since the [shelving itself is quite shallow](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ledge-shelf). This means that only a limited amount of items can fit on it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 65% | Activity: 63% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Minimalist Storage Solutions:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop storage units that combine minimalist design with practical functionality. - **Sculptural Shelving:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create shelving units that double as artistic pieces to enhance aesthetic value in homes and offices. - **Decorative Practicality:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design shelves that serve both decorative and practical purposes, maximizing functionality without sacrificing style. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore new materials and forms to create innovative furniture pieces that redefine interior spaces. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate art and functionality in home decor products to offer unique and visually appealing storage solutions. - **Office Supplies:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop shelving systems that optimize organization and aesthetics in office environments, enhancing productivity and employee satisfaction. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dynamic Storage-Display Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-life.md) - [Versatile Modern Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/utility-shelf.md) - [Discreet Folding Shelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-shelf.md) - [Curvaceous Shelf-Paired Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wave-mirror.md) - [Clock-Accented Shelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/omega-shelf.md) - [Handle-Equipped Planter Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-plant-shelf.md) - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Sculptural Bookshelves Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-bookshelf.md) - [Japanese Woodwork-Inspired Shelving Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/altitude-shelving.md)
