# Giant Teacup Chairs Alice in Wonderland Stools By Cowbag | Published 2008-07-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tea-cup-stools-more-great-uk-graduate-design References: [hollypalmeronline](http://www.hollypalmeronline.com/portfolio/tea) With all the graduate shows on at the moment in the UK, there is an abundance of great designs by budding artists, and Holly Palmer is a case in point. I love the fun in her '[tea party' stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bubble-stool) which were influenced by [Alice in Wonderland](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moopi). Whilst translating the idea of a [cup into furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-pole-collection) is not a new idea, I love the way Holly made her 'tea cups' vacuum formed from plastic, and in a quirky twist they can be stored either on a mug tree or wall mounted panel. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.9/10 - Popularity: 58% | Activity: 80% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Fantasy-inspired Furniture:** There is a trend of creating furniture inspired by popular fantasy stories like Alice in Wonderland, providing opportunity to make themed home decor more accessible to a larger audience. - **Creative Use of Materials:** Designers are pushing the boundaries of what materials can be used for furniture by using vacuum-formed plastic to create whimsical pieces, providing opportunities to create durable and affordable furniture with unique designs. - **Multi-functional Furniture:** The storage potential of furniture is being explored through the design of furniture like the teacup chairs that can be stored on a mug tree or wall-mounted panel, providing opportunities for space-saving solutions and maximizing functionality. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture:** The home decor and furniture industry can capitalize on the trend of fantasy-inspired furniture by creating their own unique designs and merchandise based on popular stories like 'Alice in Wonderland'. - **Design:** Designers can explore new applications and creative uses of materials, like vacuum-formed plastic, in furniture to create unique and affordable designs to appeal to a wider audience. - **Home Improvement:** There is an opportunity for retailers in the home improvement industry to invest in multi-functional furniture that maximizes storage potential and provides space-saving solutions for smaller living spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Cult Film Character-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miss-holly.md) - [Surrealist-Inspired Tea Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tea-for-two-collection.md) - [Vibrant '90s-Inspired Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/holloway-li.md) - [Waste-Incorporated Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knoll-chairs.md) - [Cocktail-Resembling Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cocktail-chair.md) - [Stool-Inspired Design Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hackability-of-the-stool.md) - [Whimsical Stool Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-design-review.md) - [Cultural Heritage-Inspired Stool Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stool-design1.md) - [Childhood-Inspired Outdoor Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peace-outdoor-lounge.md)
