# Electric Ammo Box Guitars Tate Chmielewski Creates Unusual Items into Musical Instruments By Kevin Young | Published 2012-06-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tate-chmielewski References: [laughingsquid](http://laughingsquid.com/electric-guitar-made-from-a-metal-ammo-box/) & [facebook](https://www.facebook.com/sterafilms) Nowadays, ammo boxes are usually seen in museums or in hipster antique shops, but Tate Chmielewski decides to do something different by making it into a guitar. Chmielewski has a creative talent to modify random items into musical instruments that not only have the look, but also the sound. It's interesting to see empty boxes turn into amazing instruments, like his previous creation of a [metal lunch box ukulele](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magnetic-folklore). This handcrafted ammo box guitar is equipped with four strings that shoot top notch sounds. Tate Chmielewski sells his crossbreed instruments on his [Etsy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arcade-clock) website Stera Instruments. The guitar puts out tunes similarly to a real [electric guitar](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mogabi-v3-guitar), but the shape is different; although the appearance is a one-of-a-kind, it sure isn't the most comfortable to play with. For those with a love of antiques and music, this electric ammo box guitar is the ideal instrument to jam with. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.3/10 - Popularity: 12% | Activity: 20% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Upcycled Musical Instruments:** The trend of transforming random items into musical instruments presents a disruptive innovation opportunity for artists to create unique and environmentally-friendly products. - **Handcrafted Music Gear:** The rise of handcrafted instruments like the electric ammo box guitar offers a disruptive innovation opportunity for independent craftsmen to cater to niche markets and offer personalized products. - **Alternative Music Accessories:** The trend of unconventional music accessories, such as the ammo box guitar, presents a disruptive innovation opportunity for manufacturers to explore new materials and designs for musical instruments. ### Where This Applies - **Musical Instruments:** The musical instrument industry can seize the disruptive innovation opportunity by embracing upcycled and handcrafted instruments, attracting environmentally-conscious consumers and offering unique products. - **Craftsmanship and Artisanal Manufacturing:** The craftsmanship industry can tap into the disruptive innovation opportunity by creating personalized and unique musical instruments, catering to a niche market of consumers seeking one-of-a-kind products. - **Creative Design and Innovation:** The design and innovation industry can explore the disruptive innovation opportunity of creating alternative music accessories that merge functionality with unconventional materials and concepts, appealing to a growing segment of consumers looking for unique musical experiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Recycled Guitar Prototypes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cardboard-guitar-1.md) - [Futuristic Abstract Musical Instruments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zeta-electric-guitar.md) - [Speaker-Resembling Lunchboxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fender-amp-lunchbox.md) - [Packable Electroacoustic Travel Guitars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/travel-guitar.md) - [Shreddable Steampunk Guitars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/steampunk-guitar.md) - [Minimalist Instrument-Holding Amplifiers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/breeze-guitar-amp.md) - [Electronic String Instruments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/harmoni.md) - [DIY Beer Guitars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/busch-light.md) - [Effect-Emitting Guitar Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/guitar-gadgets.md)
