# Collapsing Cube Architecture The Taipei City Museum of Art Looks Like Its Caving In By Meghan Young | Published 2011-08-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/taipei-city-museum-of-art References: [plusmood](http://plusmood.com/2011/08/ooda-wins-merit-award-in-new-taipei-city-museum-of-art-international-competition/) The design concept for the new [Taipei City Museum of Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inconspicuous-pet-furniture) looks like it is caving in on itself. It is this precarious presence that truly doses the architectural industry with a bit of excitement. A truly spectacular structure, it is worthy of the art it will eventually be home to. Designed by [Ooda](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ooda), the studio that won the merit award in the Taipei City Museum of Art international competition, this structural masterpiece is a pioneering and innovative concept. The inspiration comes from a mathematical form that relates a big volumetric cube with a smaller inner structure cube (hypercube). The outer cube clamps onto the inner cube as its core, making the entire structure look stucked in. This dual nature beautifully complements the fact that two museums are housed in it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.0/10 - Popularity: 79% | Activity: 92% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Collapsing Cube Architecture:** Architecture is becoming more innovative and daring, yielding new opportunities for structural design. - **Mathematical Form in Design:** Architects are using mathematical forms to inspire and revolutionize structural design. - **Dual Nature Structures:** Designers are incorporating dual nature structures into their architectural projects, leading to new and exciting opportunities for innovative design. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** Innovative designs such as the Taipei City Museum of Art present new opportunities for architects to create unique and visually stunning structures. - **Construction:** Incorporating mathematical forms into construction projects can lead to more efficient and innovative building designs. - **Art:** Museums such as the Taipei City Museum of Art are providing opportunities for designers to create architecturally stunning spaces that showcase the art within in new and innovative ways. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Garden-Topped Sunken Museums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cmp-inspiration.md) - [Billowing Modular Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/curly-cube.md) - [Dual Level Concrete Galleries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crow-museum-of-asian-art.md) - [Floating Art Museums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dubai-museum-of-art.md) - [Art Museum Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xiao-feng-art-museum.md) - [Infinity Loop-Shaped Museums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yohoo-museum.md) - [Park Library Museums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/taichung-green-museumbrary.md) - [Reflective Museum Conversion](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hangzhou-empathy-museum.md) - [Color-Shifting Art Museums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-quartet-songzhuang-z-museum.md)
