# Interactive Braille Tablets The Tactalis Tablet is the Innovative Tablet That Touches Back By Vijay Mohan | Published 2015-02-17 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tactalis-tablet References: [tactalis](http://tactalis.com/) The Tactalis Tablet Computer is a step forward in bringing the digital age to the blind. Currently in development by the brilliant minds at Tactalis (formerly Invici Technologies), the Tactalis Tablet combines a magnetic screen and text-to-voice technology to guide the user's finger toward icons and important details. The device has that familiar, tablet-y shape, but with a [Braille interface](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nemonic-dot) at the bottom and a microphone at the top. Tactalis CEO Doug Hagedorn calls the technology "Touch 2.0", saying that while Touch 1.0 devices like [iPads](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/maghub-3) and [iPhones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eyetracking-features) allow users to simply touch their screens, Touch 2.0 represents, "things that touch you back." The developers demonstrated the applications of the Tactalis Tablet at a conference for people with disabilities in California, including an interactive subway map that pulls the user's fingertip toward subway stops. One of the notable attendees of the conference was blind music legend Stevie Wonder, whose fingers may soon be as familiar with computers as with the ivories of his keyboard. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 38% | Activity: 89% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Interactive Braille Technology:** The Tactalis Tablet showcases the potential for interactive Braille technology, opening up new possibilities for accessibility and inclusion. - **Tactile Interface Innovation:** The Touch 2.0 concept of the Tactalis Tablet highlights the demand for tactile interfaces that provide meaningful touch feedback, revolutionizing user experiences. - **Assistive Technology Advancements:** The development of the Tactalis Tablet signifies the advancement of assistive technology, enhancing the independence and access to information for visually impaired individuals. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Accessibility Technology:** The Tactalis Tablet presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the accessibility technology sector, driving forward advancements in inclusive technology solutions. - **Consumer Electronics:** The integration of interactive Braille technology in the Tactalis Tablet opens up potential disruptions in the consumer electronics market, catering to a previously underserved market segment. - **Assistive Devices:** The Tactalis Tablet's tactile interface and text-to-voice technology paves the way for disruptive innovation in the assistive devices industry, improving the quality of life for individuals with visual impairments. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Tactile Accessible Mobile Technologies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/accessible-mobile-technology.md) - [Accessibility-Friendly Tactile Educational Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brailledoodle.md) - [Minimal Braille Learning Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smartio-edu.md) - [Miniature Braille Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tdot-braille-keyboard.md) - [Consolidated Eye-Tracking Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eyetracking-platform.md) - [Redefined Braille E-Readers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dotary-device.md) - [Tactile Digital Comics](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tactile-digital-comics.md) - [Engaging Braille Education Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/braille-learning-device.md) - [Tablet-Based Video Magnifying Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/video-magnifier.md)
