# Chalkable Craft Mats The Tablette Blackboard Equips On-the-Go Artists with a Slice-Safe Slate By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-01-31 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tablette-blackboard References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2013/01/30/for-the-non-ipad-addicts/) & [cargocollective](http://cargocollective.com/atelier-d/Tablette-Blackboard) While at architecture school, I occasionally found myself preparing pieces of my models in transit. Something like the Tablette Blackboard would have been an ideal tool to tote in my bag, especially for those times when it was necessary for the knife to come out. Just smaller than the dimensions of your typical clipboard, the Atelier-D product by Jonathan Dorthe is something you can carry with you to class and use as a grid for cutting paper and scoring thin pieces of wood. Three different textural options give you either a grid, a diamond pattern or zigzag etching. On the flip side of the Tablette Blackboard, the artist is provided with a slate surface and a white marker that allows him to doodle as ideas form and then later wipe them away. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.5/10 - Popularity: 5% | Activity: 2% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Portable Craft Surfaces:** The emergence of portable craft surfaces like the Tablette Blackboard opens up opportunities for artists and designers to work on-the-go. - **Multifunctional Creative Tools:** The Tablette Blackboard exemplifies the trend of multifunctional creative tools that can serve multiple purposes for artists and designers. - **Sustainable Art Supplies:** The use of reusable and wipeable materials in craft mats like the Tablette Blackboard highlights the trend of sustainable art supplies, reducing waste and the need for disposable materials. ### Where This Applies - **Art Supplies:** The art supplies industry can explore the production and distribution of portable and sustainable craft mats like the Tablette Blackboard. - **Stationery:** The stationery industry can incorporate the concept of multifunctional creative tools, such as the Tablette Blackboard, into their product offerings. - **Education:** Educational institutions can adopt portable craft surfaces like the Tablette Blackboard as tools for hands-on learning and creative expression. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Portable Drawing Tablets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-projector-for-kids.md) - [Minimalist Clip-Free Clipboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hinge-clipboard.md) - [Practical Matte Desk Pads](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-pad.md) - [Magnetic Whiteboard Notebooks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/whiteboard-notebook.md) - [Paper-Inspired Drawing Tablets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xencelabs-pen-tablet.md) - [Multifunctional Kitchen Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/latticeboard-multipurpose-kitchen-board.md) - [Portable Knife-Equipped Cutting Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baca-board.md) - [Unique Writing Instruments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/graphite-paintbrush-writing-instrument.md) - [Bean-Shaped Vibrant Chalks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bean-chalk.md)
