# Dynamic Data-Driven Clocks PLAN-NET is a Next-Generation IoT Table Clock By Laura McQuarrie | Published 2016-03-07 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/table-clock References: [blog.btrax](http://blog.btrax.com/en/2016/02/29/6-innovative-japanese-iot-products-at-sxsw-2016/) & [i-studio.co.jp](http://www.i-studio.co.jp/) PLAN-NET is a table clock, but it's quite unlike many others out there. The clock is designed to sync with a user's Google Calendar, but rather than simply displaying an upcoming schedule, the artful clock reinterprets this data into a [moving space-inspired visual](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moir-clock) that resembles the liquid bubbles inside a lava lamp. As a result, this table clock is designed to change a person's response from looking at a full upcoming schedule from stress-related to soothing. Taking inspiration from PLAN-NET, data that's comparable to what can be extracted from a Google Calendar could be used in a number of similar IoT applications. Alongside the PLAN-NET prototype, HACKist's SXSW booth will also feature a total of six creative IoT ideas, including the INUPATHY dog collar, the HELLO WORLD! table, TREK TRACK, POSTIE and the Dig-Log app. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.5/10 - Popularity: 11% | Activity: 56% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Data-driven Visual Displays:** The use of data to create visually appealing displays offers opportunities for innovative products that provide information in a unique and engaging way. - **Iot Applications for Calendar Data:** Leveraging calendar data to develop IoT applications presents a new realm of possibilities for creating personalized and intuitive devices that enhance productivity and reduce stress. - **Artful Interpretation of Data:** Artistic reinterpretation of data, like the liquid bubbles in a lava lamp, can transform mundane information into visually captivating and soothing representations. ### Where This Applies - **Smart Home Technology:** Smart home technology could incorporate data-driven clocks to provide users with visually stunning and personalized displays of their calendar events, promoting productivity and relaxation. - **Iot Wearables:** IoT wearable devices, such as smartwatches or smart glasses, can utilize calendar data to offer users visually dynamic and informative displays that seamlessly integrate with their daily lives. - **Interior Design:** Incorporating data-driven art installations, like the PLAN-NET clock, into interior design projects opens up possibilities for creating visually striking and functional decor that enhances mood and ambiance. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Connected Simplicity-Focused Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-rubiks-cube-clock.md) - [Minimalist Digital Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/taoclock.md) - [Analog-Style Digital Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/klydoclock.md) - [Snowglobe-Inspired Dynamic Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/time-to-snow.md) - [Unique Timekeeping Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unique-timekeeping-device.md) - [Wireless Clock Charger Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zenith-clock.md) - [Flowing Light Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crydal-scroll-clock.md) - [Minimal Assistive Multifunctional Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/little-house-alarm-clock.md) - [WiFi-Enabled Home Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mondaine.md)
