To ring in the new theatrical season, the company commissions a design firm to create a temporary stage. This time around, Rotterdam, Netherlands-based OMA, headed by Rem Koolhaas, was tapped to design the set. Made out of aluminum scaffolding clad with multilayer marine plywood, the Syracuse Greek Theatre stage takes on the shape of two sprawling discs. Created in three parts, it is made up of the Ring, which reimagines the orchestra space as a modern thymele, the Machine, which is a suspended walkway, and the Raft, the backdrop that can be altered for each production. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.7/10 - Popularity: 3% | Activity: 11% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Temporary Stage Design:** Opportunities for design firms to create innovative and unique temporary stages for events and performances. - **Aluminum Scaffolding:** The use of aluminum scaffolding for constructing versatile and durable stage structures in the entertainment industry. - **Multilayer Marine Plywood:** Advancements in marine plywood technology for enhanced stage design and construction. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Design:** The design industry can explore opportunities in creating temporary stages for events and performances. - **Entertainment:** The entertainment industry can leverage aluminum scaffolding for constructing innovative stage structures. - **Construction:** The construction industry can capitalize on advancements in marine plywood technology for various design projects, including stage construction. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Reflective Hemispherical Theater Stages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ball-theater.md) - [Sculptural Photocoltaic Theater Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/opera-and-ballet-theatre-of-kosovo.md) - [Ring-Shaped Open-Air Amphitheaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luhu-ring-of-starlight.md) - [Everchanging Water-Based Theaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yichang-grand-theatre.md) - [Inflatable-Orb Stage Set Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/whomadewho.md) - [Tropical Modernism Stage Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/south-asian-stage.md) - [Industrial-Themed Dance Theaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sadlers-wells.md) - [Archival Performance Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/take-a-bow-centre.md) - [Mass-Timber Lakeside Theaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/theater-of-the-arts.md)
