# Condom-Like Illuminators The Symbiosis Lamp has a Rubber Husk that Encapsulates Vases By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-06-22 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/symbiosis-lamp References: [designspotter](http://www.designspotter.com/product/2011/06/Symbiosis-Lamp.html) & [rafaelmorgan](http://www.rafaelmorgan.com/p/lighting_19.html) A lighting fixture need not be of a fixed form, for the Symbiosis Lamp by Rafael Morgan demonstrates how an illuminator can be satisfied to leach onto another object. The [unusual table lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/juba-tl1-table-lamp) can hardly be defined, since the bulk of its shape is derived from the receptacle that supports its bulb and shade. The designer has paired his creation with a collection of [transparent glass vases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jal), each boasting remarkably different forms. The concept behind the Symbiosis Lamp by Rafael Morgan is this the establishment of a "relationship of mutual benefit or dependence." The more curvy the container is, the more compelling the piece becomes. A [white elastic fabric](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phantom-lighting) that embraces the entire object gives a see-through aesthetic a clearly delineated silhouette. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.2/10 - Popularity: 50% | Activity: 9% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Flexible Lighting:** The Symbiosis Lamp showcases the potential for lighting fixtures to have a flexible and adaptable form. - **Object Integration:** The lamp's ability to leach onto another object highlights the trend of integrating lighting with other functional or decorative items. - **Transparent Design:** The use of transparent glass vases and the see-through aesthetic of the Symbiosis Lamp suggests a rising trend towards transparency in design. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Lighting Fixtures:** The Symbiosis Lamp presents an innovative opportunity for companies in the lighting fixture industry to explore flexible and adaptable designs. - **Home Decor:** The integration of lighting into functional or decorative objects opens up new possibilities for the home decor industry. - **Glassware:** The use of transparent glass vases in combination with the Symbiosis Lamp creates potential for collaboration between the lighting and glassware industries. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Glass Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tuloa.md) - [Blooming Paper Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kazuhiro-yamanaka-tsubomi-lamp.md) - [Organic Light Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lapso.md) - [Inflatable Colorful Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/squeeze-inflatable-lamp.md) - [Dreamlike Bubble-Shaped Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airshape-lamp.md) - [Umbrella-Inspired Whimsical Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wasaga-lamp.md) - [Conical Multifunctional Lamp Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-table-light.md) - [Ultra-Flexible Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anywhereuse-lamp.md) - [Archetypal Conical Light Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragile-lamp.md)
